I tasted these wines before bottling, back in March – now a chance to taste after bottling !!
On the recent vintages:
“In 2023 we were happy to have filled our tanks – we harvested a bit earlier in 23. For us, 2022 for us was another small vintage – 35 hl/ha – plenty of grapes but not much juice – but such concentrated juice!”
About 60% of their sales are in France…
The wines…
Delicious wines !!
We pay the higher price for high quality corks:
2022 St.Véran Canopé
North facing in a valley argillo-calcaire – but more clay – the placement an advantage in 22. It was bottled in June
Hmm, lots of scale here -. In the mouth too – there’s and enryg and some waves of flavour energy too and the finish is wide and sustained – that’s a super SV.
2022 St.Véran l’Effet
In Chasselass, s-e facing, and with 400m altitude – the two balancing each other. One year elevage – in large-format barrels.
Hmm – that’s both broader and deeper – an attractive invitation. A hint of oak but here is extra volume and a faintly rasping citrus bitters texture – lemon and lime skin! Narrower but no less long finishing – a very tasty finish – a beauty – wait 1-2 years for that last accents of the wood to fade.
2022 St.Amour Cocagne
Not long in bottle. 70% destemmed.
Hmm – wide, complex even a bit saline – that’s a top invitation. Large in the mouth – more intensity than concentration today – but clearly both. The slight, appealing, juiciness of the vintage clear in this delicious finish – a really fine St.Amour!
Not allowed to say Method Ancienne – but anyway… – half gamay, half chardonnay – and has zero residual sugar.
Complex and very perfumed – that’s a great invitation. Really open, less sweet than the nose suggests – but juicy moreish and floral-infused in the finishing flavour. Just too good !!
