Vincent on 2023:
2023 Was my first vintage certified organic and it’s a super vintage – I think better than the 22s – at least here. We had grapes too. Since 2022 I use a lot less sulfur and I find everything goes easier in the cuvérie and for the first time in 23 only local yeasts – I bought nothing – and all went well.
Vincent on 2022:
“Yes we had a big harvest and the quality was good too – there was more richness and roundness and easier to drink wines than in 21 – this was my first commercial vintage for my red too. We made fewer treatments – so it was easier than 23 in that respect. All the first bottlings have been done of the 22s and there’s still some more to bottle when the space allows.I have some 1er cru in this vintage – but contracts – let’s see if I continue.”
The wines…
So much to love here – great Bourgognes is always a great start. I‘m also impressed that Vincent thinks his 2023s will be even better! ‘Yes, we had a bit lower yields in 2023.’
All from here in Prehy on Kimmerigian soils. All destemmed as it was a mechanical harvest with some triage of what was in the bins. All had some barrel elevage. The vines are young, this just the second harvest.
Hmm – a cushioned and good volume of attractive aroma. Mouth-filling, juicy, absolutely delicious wine. The oak is visible but quite additive to the flavour today. Just a delicious juicy thing – bravo!
‘I planted these – the vines are about 25 years old, this a parcels that was declassified from Chablis about 20-25 years ago – it’s a good place.’
A small impression of firework reduction. In the mouth another wine of delicious energy and super length – even a little floral extras in the finish. That’s another great Bourgogne.
2022 Bourgogne Chardonnay
From the same area – on the Kimmerigian plateau of Prehy
Good width and vivacity of aromas. Here is a little more visible structure – but not hard – fine definition and juicy finishing with a little citrus bitters – almost zesty. Really lovely, delicious wine – keep 12 months before attacking!
2022 Petit Chablis
A broader panorama of aroma. Larger scale and more open. Juicy again, such a mouth-watering wine – slightly chalky finish too. I love it!
2022 Chablis
The width of the last but here with more core ie more intensity of aroma at the centre. A little rounder shape but more concentrated and absolutely no-less juicy. I’d wait a bit longer for this more generous wine – but it’s sooo delicious! Lip-smacking finishing flavour here – super wine.
2022 Chablis 1er Vaillons
The contract wine.
Hmm, a hint less energy but very perfumed – that’s a super invitation to drink. Larger in the mouth some roundness – but all is tank elevage – there’s plenty of finishig weight here – it’s delicious but with less personality than the domaine wines today.
2022 Chablis Quintessence
A parcel-selection of older vines – ‘Really well exposed to the south – I think the best of the domaine. The fermentation starts in tank and then is barrelled down for the fermentation. I make some battonage too – but the wine stays quietly in barrel after that.’
A broad, almost silky nose – the creamy barrel is your companion here. Incisive, growing wide with plenty of salinity and texturally silky – though a small chalky tannin comes to the surface in the middle and finishing flavours. A wine more of contemplation – the energy and juiciness of the the other domaine wines is toned down but not completely lost. The barrel will take all of 2 years to fade, maybe a bit longer, but this is a delicious, well-proportioned wine – potentially a super wine.
