Jean-Michel on 2023:
“I’m very happy – we had full tanks. The mildew wasn’t much problem for us.”
Jean-Michel on 2022:
“Back to normal after a third less in 2021. We bottled at about the same time as each year. There were a couple of early bottlings but the bulk was done at the usual time. We had some decent yields everywhere – it was a nice vintage with more losses due to the dryness of the summer than from the frost in April.”
The wines…
A mix of 22s and 21s tasted – the 21s were excellent, the 22s very good.
DIAM here – “We have no problems.”
2022 Petit Chablis
The nose is broad and open. Mouth-filling wine – plenty of richness, a round but quite tasty wine – this fruit quite in the style of a more golden, ripe Fourchaume.
2022 Chablis
More direct and mineral. Structure, proper minerality – almost a little strict. This is a super Chablis!
2021(!) Chablis Vieilles-Vignes
A single parcel of 40-year-old vines under Montee de Tonnerre (Chapelots) – The 22 won’t be bottled for another month or-so.
Quite direct but padded out with the aromas of the barrels. There’s scale here – and juicy – delicious flavour too – oaky flavour today – so either enjoy like that or wait 3 years for it to fade – but there’s seriously impressive shape and flavour to this wine. It’s excellent in its style.
2021(!) Chablis 1er Vaillons
A fresh, clean, nose – a smaller nose without the oak padding. Direct, mineral and delicious – quite elegant despite a proper architectural shape. Pure and delicious!
2021(!) Chablis 1er Montée de Tonnerre
A calm but pure nose – it’s a little discrete. More direct and with more power and concentration – ooh that’s very good. Clean, mineral and complex – that’s another really excellent wine. Well done!
