More reports with Maison Henry
Pascale Henry is close to retiring so there are changes afoot here – but that’s for them to announce when they are ready…
Pascal on the last years:
“Well, if you can’t be happy with 2023, what can you be happy with?! As for 2022 – all the bottling is now done – mainly because there wasn’t much wine in 2021. 2022 brought decent rain in the Spring but afterwards, it was a dry year. Despite that, it brought a good volume, but it was a correct volume. I think it’s a nicer vintage than 2021 – certainly for the reds!”
The wines…
Tasty wines from here in 2022 – and two great regional reds too!
Normal cork (Portuguese) except for the aligoté which is a cork amalgam:
2022 Bourgogne Aligoté
Some here in Saint Cyr, the other part in Chitry.
A little green citrus. This fills the mouth quite well – then eases over the palate deliciously – it’s excellent!
2022 Bourgogne Chardonnay
From Saint Cyr
An easy width of aroma. An extra depth of concentration too – impressive flavour with a good base of minerality. Delicious finishing!
2022 Chablis
Vines in the area of Chichée – so from the right bank
Higher toned there’s a floral note here too – nice. Extra structure – a little green extra in these flavours. But finishing deliciously like the last – a super finish.
2022 Chablis 1er Vaillons
From true Vaillons – just one parcel – ‘and not a big one but it’s good one for me’
Here a nice blend of yellow and green citrus. Lovely structure – direct and juicy finishing. Pretty finishing. Delicious wine.
2021(!) Bourgogne Blanc Cuvée Prestige
This with barrel elevage
Airy, a nose with plenty of the barrel. More direct and cool but slowly warming with the sweetness of the barrel. I’d be waiting 2-3 years for this the oak is creamy but still rather present. Delicious wine though!
Les reds:
Pinot with 20% gamay.
That’s a very inviting nose – very faintly spiced but with ripe and inviting fruit. Fluid – fine volume and delicious – great CB!
2022 Bourgogne Chitry
This nose is less full than the CB but has a very pretty floral top note. Direct, properly structured – but not austere, waves of good flavour with both freshness and depth. Keep it a year but this is excellent Chitry.
Vines in Saint Cyr
Really quite perfumed. Fuller, more relaxed structure. Delicious tiny berried fruit. Slowly fading in clean flavourted style. That’s too easy – completely delicious wine. Bravo for the region.
There’s crémant here too:
Crémant Blanc de Blanc
All chardonnay with a small dosage…
Clean and fresh, today it has quite a subtle nose. Juicy and intense – with a pretty accent of tannin in this texture. A tasty wine!
