Guillaume on 2023 & 2022:
2023 – It went very well and that’s two good vintages in a row. We probably had 20%+ more volume in 2023 versus 2022. All the 2022s are now bottled – we didn’t have a lot of space for the incoming 2023s so it had to be done! With 2022 we are also very happy – the reds weren’t a big volume though.

The wines…

Some of the whites were a little sweeter than is my taste but not their Vers Cras – but all had great finishes! The reds were delicious!

Trescasses cork for these whites – the entry wines are technical corks with a layer of cork top and bottom – “We have had no problems since we used them the last 4-5 years. We tried DIAM but the wines didn’t appeal to us:”

2022 Bourgogne Aligotè
North-facing, limoneux not a lot of limestone or clay – but there’s usually a good balance and it ripens well here.
A pretty floral accent to this citrus. Generous, even a little cushioned. Sweet, open, easy finishing flavour – maybe a bit too sweet for me but with lovely texture and no rigour.

2022 Mâcon-Bussières Claude Seigneuret
Also some perfume in this width of aroma. Lots of 500-litre barrels in use here. A little extra incisive after the aligoté – still sweet but with a juiciness and mouth-watering style to aid balance. The finish is really the best part – I love this here.

2022 Pouilly-Fuissé VII
From, surprise, surprise – 7 parcels. All from the commune of Fuissé.
A calm nose – some modest width. More mineral in style – still some sweetness – a hint of lime in the citrus. Then a fine finishing width again – they have really nailed these finishes so far!

2022 Pouilly-Fuissé Vers Cras
50% new oak and 24 months of elevage – ‘a different esprit – it’s our white for keeping’
Yes, more yellow fruit and a hint of barrel too. Direct, silky, not as sweet as the previous wines. I love the sleek, silky shape of this and would wait another 3-5 years before drinking – really long- simply excellent wine.

Les Reds:

2022 Mâcon-Bussières Rouge Coline
Young Gamay on clay – all destemmed – 8-10 days of maceration
A smaller nose but of some darker-red power. Breadth of flavour. Then fine intensities of pure fruit – little fireworks of interest. Super!

2022 Macon-Bussières Les Devants
The same terroir just a little older vines – some whole cluster in this, 10-15%
A rounder more inviting nose. Extra clarity – a little extra tannin too – it hardly registered on the last. This is simply excellent.
