Alix on 2022:
The best ever – at least after 2021 🙂

Alix on 2021:
We weren’t too frosted though did use some candles – our training isn’t that late, January. We did have a few losses, of course, but about 20-25%, some areas were colder than others but it was definitely not like in 2016 and because of that, we were not so open to oïdium or mildew. We had a little, of course, due to the lack of sun in the early growing season, and that was despite some treatments done manually as the vineyards were too wet for the tractors. I didn’t use any stems in 2021 except for the ‘nature cuvée.’ The wines remind me of 2014, maybe with a little less acidity but they are attractive.

The wines…

Beautiful wines here in 2021 – fewer great wines than in 2020 but more drinkable wines in their youth – ie from bottling to 20 years old!

2021 Bourgogne Pinot Noir
Vines in Comblanchien, 2 parcels, early bottling of this in July – some others in October – but needed the place for the 22s
Broad, red, nicely energetic nose and with good depth too. Silky and wide – vibrantly flavoured in the middle. Good length.

2021 Savigny-lès-Beaune
3 parcels; Dessus les Vermots, Au Fourches and Gollardes – so two on high and one closer to Aloxe.
A finer width, a narrower width of red fresh fruit. Supple, broadening with flavour – delicious, attractively drinking wine.

2021 Côte de Nuits Villages Au Fauques
In Comblanchien, 2 ha, a mix of older and younger vines, the soil in some parts with a lot of limestone.
Extra depth but extra top notes too – very attractive aromatics. Broad, a hint of tannin frames these flavours – good depth and super finishing complexity – thats very lovely. You want to take another glass!

2021 Côte de Nuits Villages Le Vaucrain
Just above the Clos de la Marechale, whole clusters and no sulfur
That’s very aromatic and forward – super. Supple, slightly cushioned, a tiny grain of tannin but no dryness. Absolutely delicious and with a lovely intensity in the finish. Gorgeous, perfumed wine!

All the rest tasted from barrel:

2021 Nuits St.Georges
A contract, From Longecours under Les Saint Georges
Beautiful purity here despite a faint reduction. Silky, excellent, bravo wine – such finesse – nsg really?

2021 Gevrey-Chambertin
Also a contract – a mix of two parcels
Plenty of colour. A broader, deeper, more muscular nose but still of silk. Structured in the best sense – the shape is mouth-watering, supple, and then comes a super width of finishing flavour here. Lovely!

2021 Vosne-Romanée
Back to domaine. Two parcels; Hautes Maizières and Violettes
Faintly reductive and tighter. More direct, wiry muscle but juicy too with a super growth of finishing flavour – tons of potential here!

2021 Vosne-Romanée 1er Les Suchots
Near Cathiard on the bottom side of the road, heading in the direction of Echézeaux
More open and expressive becoming ever more beautiful with air. A faint frame of tannin but what gorgeously perfumed middle and finishing flavour we have here – bravo!

2021 Echézeaux
From 3 parcels, the majority from de Dessus
A broad nose, ever cleaner and finer with air – good density here too. Supple, medium intensity, the texture of velour. Fine red and again vibrantly finishing – great dynamism!

2021 Echezeaux du Dessus
Vines from 49…
More creamy barrel here. A direct wine, not quote strict but with many dimensions of flavour – this will be super…

2021 Clos de Vougeot Grand Maupertuis
High in the clos
This nose starts tighter but air brings a little growth. Much more open and airy – almost juicy, I love this shape despite the wine’s lower impact. Gorgeous finish – not a big wine but an absolutely gorgeous one.

2021 Grands-Echézeaux
Next to the Clos de Vougeot, and the neighbouring vines are DRC.
More open top notes and fine depth – today it’s more vertical. More width, and more composure – a suggestion of reduction twisting the flavour in a different direction. Beautiful texture and again a vibrancy and extravagance of perfumed finishing flavour.
