The domaine’s new cuverie is completed and holds their 2022s – Antoine is very happy – it was 18 months of construction work. So this is the last time that we will taste in their old cuverie which still houses the 2021s. When put on the market, this old building sold in just 1 hour – to a family from Premeaux.
Antoine on 2022 & 2021:
“Not so happy with 2022 – we lost at least 30% just due to hail – so on average it’s close to half a harvest – again. We were actually relatively happy with 2021 as we have always pruned quite late and only prune on a descending moon so we were finished only at the start of April. The snow hit us hard and we lost 50% – which compared to many neighbours was better as they lost 70%!”
The wines…
A super range in 2021 – the first wines are overwhelmingly excellent and the grand wines are either obviously grand or show the potential to be grand. Well done!

2021 Bourgogne Côte d’Or
All these vines in the commune of Chambolle; all destemmed, mainly large barrels and hardly any new
A fine, pure and actually quite concentrated red fruit. In the mouth too great concentration for a 21 Bourgogne. The wine is silky and sinuous. Cherry-stone finishing with a breadth of red fruit. Slowly more perfumed. High class Bourgogne!
2021 Morey St.Denis
Some Clos Solon, plus grapes from another parcel near the Route Nationale – with a little wc.
Pretty aromas with some extra complexity. A hint of gas but a more open wine. Again sinuous with good concentration – this shows a small kick of extra energy and extra finishing breadth. Very good!
2021 Chambolle-Musigny
Seven different parcels; most of Bas Doix, a little Cras, some just above Musigny and other parts close to Morey – 10% wc.
More airy – fine clarity too. Here’s a wine with a more direct style and an extra hint of structure – I like this a sort of Cras style with chalky tannins. Super wine!
2021 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Les Bas Doix
The domaine’s largest village parcel, the balance from this in the previous wine – 1 ha in total
A more direct finely red nose – lots of precision here. Broader, still some tannin – but no grain. There’s some power here. Finishing with a forward and attractive perfume – mineral too. This is also super.
2021 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Les Feuselottes
A small parcel.
This is all whole-cluster but from the elegance of the integration, you wouldn’t guess. Wider, calmer but still mobile and mouth-watering. Intense finishing – that’s really super – a big reward at the end and it holds very well. I’d give this 3-5 years, not because it’s particularly structural but to tease out all the complexity – super.
2021 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Les Plantes
Next to Charmes.
A broader, more accessible perfume today. Ultra-wide, cool and fluid but the grainless tannin is telling you that you should be patient. Depth of flavour, great structure – such a fine wine!
Next to Bonnes-Mares, on the hill.
Clarity and airy freshness but with a smaller volume of aroma today. Like the freshness and fluidity of the Plantes but silkier and less affected by its tannin – more mineral and direct in style. Always something new – let this grow a little in the bottle but it could be a great Fuées!
2021 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Les Charmes
1 ha – From three separate parcels – in the middle of the Combe, blended.
Aromatically generous and pure – perfect, cliché Chambolle aromatics. Mouth-filling and of course, silky. Growing in layers of round clean red-fruit flavour. Really complex finishing – that’s a simply excellent Charmes – well done!
The domaine always had these vines, but 2017 was the first time that a standalone cuvée has been separated. The vines are located at the village end of Musigny.
A bit of oak on this nose but plenty of energy too. More direct, cool fruit, mouth-watering with silky minerality. What a wine, and it reminds a little of the sweeping style of the Fuées here. Simply excellent – but give this 5-10 years to start with and it may be great!
On the Morey side of the village. It’s a small 1er cru covering just over 0.7ha – this domaine owning almost half.
A calmer nose – less overt – but with a seamless width of red fruit. Again gorgeous shape – more architectural in style, and mineral for sure. Fresh, complex – always changing – a very fluid style – I love it. Just a nose short of great wine today and that will come!
Plantations in 1993, 2003-05, and another third in 2019.
More open and explosively floral and fine – that’s a beautiful nose. A core of slightly tighter flavour, but exquisitely detailed and with a lovely texture. It needs to open more to be a great wine – but this seems to have all it needs! No discussion, the finish is so impressively long though mainly on mineral notes today.
2021 Charmes-Chambertin
Actually in Mazoyères but the family always labelled as so. Very old vines no wc
Good breadth and intensity of aroma – aromas that are less fine than a bunch of these Chambolles but it has time to work on that. Extra breadth to this flavour – finely framed with some grainless tannin. Perhaps a little less personality but with more size in most directions. Give it some time in the cellar its clearly still going to be something fine – the finish really impresses in length – like the Amoureuses.
Starting with a narrower aromatic but what depth it has! Oh yes, a match for the Charmes in dimensions but here with extra precisions and clarity – the personality that I was looking for in the last can be found in spades here. Beautifully textured wine – round and pure – it’s a top CSD! Bravo!
