Pascal on 2019:
Is it a great year, so let’s see, impressive, nice purity, good tannins. Down about 20% in volume but that’s almost all down to flowering – 28hl/ha

Pascal on 2018:
The Spring and early Summer wasn’t easy – rainy but still warm. So we were worried about mildew – but afterwards it was perfect with healthy grapes. We harvested quite early – 02 September. I chose to produce less and cut earlier – 12.7°-13.2° – there are other choices. No sulfite in fermenting and only a very small amount during elevage – I’ve not much more than 20mg/l total, that’s 10 mg/l free – the concentration of the wine with low yields helps this lower sulfur…

The wines…

A great 2018 cellar – bravo Pascal!

2018 Pourpre
Was the vines for passetoutgrains (vineyards in Vosne, Flagey and Gilly), but now VDF, more wc, newer barrels.
Dark fruit here. Volume, mineral freshness, needs time for more expression but lovely texture and depth. Yum!

2018 Bourgogne Pinot Noir
Three parcels around Vosne and Chambolle
Deep spicy, very attractive. Fresher, more energy, open but concentrated without fat. A little perfumed finishing and with real depth of flavour. Excellent Bourgogne!

2018 Bourgogne ‘Rouges Champs’
From one parcel in Vosne
This not yet assembled. A little less colour. Softer fruit, nicely floral – yes! More structural, more open, needs some time but the last flavours are delicious – bravo.

2018 Vosne-Romanée Cuvée ‘Quatrain’
2 parcels from north and two from the south of the village.
Darker, real Vosne spice aroma – ooh – such a classic, super nose. Drive, super line, growing complex width. Classic – excellent! Lots of ‘inner-mouth’ perfume.

2018 Vosne-Romanée Aux Vigneux
A bigger and finely floral nose. Softer, deeper, some wc flavours, great texture and freshness. A beauty!

2018 Vosne-Romanée Colombière
From the heart of the village.
A tighter nose, but a fine perfume opens from this. Lovely fresh width, plenty of fine tannin but with balance. Lovely freshness. Long and tasty. More tension and structure – I love the clarity of fruit in the finish.

2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Murots
Also wide and perfumed – not overtly Gevrey today – it must be the local yeasts! But more width and masculine in style in the mouth. Fine and fresh, perfumed finishing. Excellent.

2018 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Les Gravains
More intense ripe fruit on the nose, but calm enough and really inviting. Nice line, energy and super texture. Finishing with a little dryness – ooh great Savigny.
2018 Vosne-Romanée 1er Les Suchots
A deep enveloping loveliness here – yes! Bright fruit, really fine texture, complex, melting with fresh flavour. Lovely precision. Bravo!
2018 Vosne-Romanée 1er Brûlées
Just three hundred metres from the middle of this parcel to the middle of their Suchots parcel.
Rounder, beautiful fruit. More mouth-filling, perfumed and complex. Structural in the middle then brilliantly finishing. Fuller than the Suchots – Bravo.
2018 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Les Charmes
Open, it’s a deeper fruited nose but one with lovely freshness to the fruit too. Hyper-fine tannin, layered fresh fruit. Complex, inviting, rewarding yet never easy wine. Bravo.
2018 Nuits St.Georges 1er Aux Cras
Fresher but lovely aromatic nose. Open, lovely structure – delicate yet robust – porcelain – what a wine – not big but it gives me all that I could wish for.
2018 Echézeaux
Ooh – pow! – Not hard but in the complex volume of aroma that jumps from the glass. Fresh, yet concentrated – a line of flavour running through the middle and finishing flavours. The dryness of tannin is only the faintest anecdote – über-fine-grained – it’s practically not there, a touch saline too. Grand vin.

2018 Nuits St.Georges 1er Richemone
It’s the second vintage that it has been separated from the Cras – the blend previously called Boudots 😉 – sandier soil and less of it vs in the Cras
A big, very floral nose. Big wine, less complex but more enveloping, a wine that hugs you with a little roundness but remains fresh. Rounder, less complex but absolutely delicious.
