Jean-Michel on 2022:
“Yes we had some decent yields everywhere – it was a nice vintage, more losses due to the dryness of the summer than from the frost in April – and the wines are already made. The wines were a little slower to ferment as we use local yeasts but all are done and I’ll be aking a couple of bottlings next week from them.”
Jean-Michel on 2021:
“Actually, we did quite well – 37 hl/ha and that includes one parcel in Beru which brought not much more than 15 hl/ha. We are moving to 2022 soon for the first wines and are still on 20 for the 1er crus. But we can say that the 21s are sold-out – but fortunately, the next vintage is waiting and the cuvérie is full.”
The wines…
Thare’s usually wine available at the domaine but it looks like you will be limited tow 2022s this year…
DIAM here – “We have no problems.”
2022(!) Petit Chablis
This will be bottled next week and on sale in February.
A broad and fresh nose – full, lots of citrus. Full in the mouth too, moderately structured but a lot of tasty fruit here. More of a tasty wine than a PC – though the last notes are a little more direct and mineral.
2022 Chablis
A narrower nose but with more depth – possibly as there’s a faint reduction here. Larger in the mouth though – a little ripe lime here – mouth-watering but there’s plenty of depth to these flavours. Rather young but with lots of concentration – fine length for the label too.
2021 Chablis Vieilles-Vignes
A single parcel of 40 year-old vines under Montee de Tonnerre (Chapelots) – Jean-Michel has newer barrels which had some important Côte de Beaune GgCs in before. This will also be bottled on Monday
The oak is prominent here. Larger scale, a hint more sucrosity today too. More energy and a bit more class – but keep this 2 years for the creamy oak to fade. More than very good!
I tasted their 1ers (Vaillons & Montée de Tonnerre) from already opened bottles – the aromas were tired (hence, no full notes) but the flavours were very promising.
