Léa on 2022 & 2021:
“2022? – yes happy. I’m not planning to bottle anything early as I want to wait until the wine is ready. I’m aided in that because a lot of my vines are oriented north, in the valley and in 2021 I was late pruning – perfect! I ended up with 53 hl/ha! The malos were fast in 21 – they only took about 10 days. So as I had a decent harvest I haven’t changed my prices. The fermentations of the 22s were not all so fast – the malo was slow to start for the 22 PC, for instance. I’ve privileged the French clients this year. It’s only my third year of production, so I still need to sell some wine in bulk for the cash flow – so was doubly lucky with her volume in 2021. But that’s without factoring in the bottles that have grown in price in 6 months from 0.27 to 0.47 cents each – before tax!”
Léa may be late pruning this year too – she’s looking for help in the vines – it seems it’s not so easy to find somebody right now!
The wines…
A compact range of good wines!
Bottled with DIAM-style closures:
2021 Petit Chablis
This nose is a little tight but there’s some mineral depth here. Supple, easy over the palate – lots of salinity – finishing with more modest volume but good length, still. Very good!
2021 Chablis
A broader, more open nose. A small diam (style!) reduction – then cleaner, pure, citrus and mineral – very nice. Hmm, energy and purity – that’s a lovely wine with tons of energy – a bit of agrume flavour too.
