Vincent on 2022:
“A super year – a good harvest, importantly with very good quality – I’m going to bottle a small volume in April as I have no other wine. Easy fermentations – I used a bit less sulfur and I think it made the difference.”
Vincent on 2021:
I had nothing in 2016 so 2021 isn’t the worst but this was a only a ‘small’ half harvest. I’m converting to organic and it was a wet year, you could say that the work in the vines was sportive! I waited and waited for maturity – here my best grapes were up at about 11.5°, the worst 10.5° – you can definitely say classic! And the wines sold very quickly – all of my Petit Chablis is long gone, I’m afraid.”
The wines…
Always classy, correct, wines at this address – I like them very much!
These 2021s were all bottled when I tasted:
Like all the vines of the domaine from around Prehy – these vines start their growth later. This is the only 2021 that’s not quite sold out at the domaine
An attractive freshness – that’s a nice invitation. There’s some width of concentration here and a sizzle of energy too – a hint of finishing melon fruit – rare but very tasty – even a hint floral. Lovely wine – That’s a great aligoté!
2021 Bourgogne Chardonnay
Less aromatic volume but still width – this nose majors on the mineral aspects. Hmm, that’s nicely shaped and growing in mouth-watering flavour – a little fuller than the aligoté – slightly herbed too. I actually have a preference for the aligoté.
2021 Chablis
A nose that’s also not fully open but still more incisive and mineral. A bead of gas with this one – but extra it’s structural and mineral after the Bourgogne – fine mineral clarity too – I love this finish – this is very good wine!
2021 Chablis Quintessence
A parcel-selection of older vines. All barrel elevage, including fermentations – apart from 1 new barrel the rest are all 5-6 years old and all 228 litres.
A rounder, more creamed nose – showing the barrel elevage. More incisive – even nicer shape, melting with slightly sweet flavour – the barrel quite strong here but give it 3 years and it will probably be okay. The base wine is very classy here!
