Paul Zinetti on 2022:
Fortunately the 22 was much better than 2021 – a reasonable rather than large volume – 38 hl/ha.

Paul Zinetti on 2021:
We just don’t have much wine – minus 70% – which is about the same as in 2016. 13 hl/ha on average. 2021 wasn’t only about frost – mildew too so we had some dried grapes. Much triage was needed. I saw very fast fermentations without whole clusters, the wines started very lite so I kept the fermentation temperature high at the end. It was a vintage where we searched for the wine in ekevage.

The wines…

Excellent wines – except for the Clois – it looks like it will be a great one!

As Paul said, so little wine – so a short tasting:

2021 Volnay
A blend of Grand Champ and Famines, racked a week.
Ooh, very pretty red fruits here – very inviting. Supple, waves of faintly cushioned red fruit – very attractive. That’s a really fine villages – simply excellent – very long finishing.

A modestly reductive depth of aroma but this nose is quite silken. Wider, modestly textural from the tannin but hardly any grain. Really a juicy finish from this – thats a lovely attractive finish. The last drops in the glass are pure and lovely

2021 Volnay 1er Fremiets
from two parcels – one of young vines of 30 years, the other 90.
Broader, energetic, slightly darker fruit. The only vines ‘protected’ by candles and the volume was almost normal. The perfume slowly coming out. Extra depth and substance, faintly saline, perfumed again in the finish – super finishing. Keep a while but thats a great finish.

2021 Pommard 1er Clos des Epeneaux
15 hl/ha, just a single assemblage of the grapes. ‘I’m still following the wines its not yet decided if it will be a normal or a slightly earlier bottling.’
A big, broad nose, airy and fresh. Open, fluid, mouth-water. Great shape and complexity – a wine of panache – great finishing. I think a great Clos this year.

2021 Bourgogne Aligoté
A punch of freshness and energy – planned to be bottled during first week in January. Hmm, silky wine, sinuous, the finishing flavour a little more savoury and concentrated. An excellent wine!

Something with a little age:

2018 Clos des Epeneaux
Forward, quite powerful but at the same time rather perfumed wine. Really mouth-filling and very silky until the tannin slowly shows itself and the texture turns more velour, hardly any grain though. The barrel is more present in these flavours but this wine, for 2 years after bottling, is amazingly approachable.

Agree? Disagree? Anything you'd like to add?
