FX on 2015:
“15 harvest quantities were very low – for instance 22 hl/ha in Clos de Vougeot – particularly low given that we had no ailments – we really expected 25-30 hl. “We have grass inside the rows and operate with full organic principles. Still, our villages vines delivered a very modest 30 hl/ha. The grapes, however, were very nice.”

FX on 2014:
Well, we will taste them – so let’s see…

The wines…

I had a little bit of a problem with the oak used in the last set of wines I tasted, and clearly that should fade with time, but it was also clear that these were not the barrels that the team would have preferred to use. This year, just the occasional coffee note aside, the barrel use was really transparent, allowing the great fruit and really good wines to shine. Some good stuff here.

2014 Nuits St.Georges
A domaine wine from a blend of 4 plots, two with young (18+19 year-old) vines.
Super colour. Wide, fresh, nice multiple dimensions of flavour. Not so deep, not so structured for Nuits, but very supple and tasty. Excellent.

2014 Vosne-Romanée Les Jacquines
Faintly reduced. Rounder, more enveloping a little textural drag from the tannin, but here is a very nice extra dimension of wide flavour in the mid-palate. A slightly roast almost coffee impression, and wide and long mouth-watering flavour. More serious than the Nuits and very good. Last drops in the glass are very fine.

2014 Chambolle-Musigny
Deep and nicely textured nose. Super texture, floral fruit too, slightly saline. A very finely constructed wine, wait a little longer for the nose. Excellent finishing width and length. Structure is very fine-grained. Last drops in the glass have opened up and there’s a very fine aromatic.

2014 Nuits St.Georges 1er Les Chaboeufs
Négoce
Bright, complex, faintly spiced nose. Larger, silkier – there’s super complexity here. Really silky, grows a little more tannic structure in the finish with lots of mouth-watering, cool and enviably complex fruit. Super!

2014 Côte de Nuits Villages Les Vaucrains
Tasted out-of-order, but still great stuff! Deep, dark appealingly fresh fruit. Takes on a fine violet note too. Fresh, sucrosity, energy, good texture. Bright interesting finish and long too. Really super cdnv!

2014 Nuits St.Georges 1er Les Saint Georges
A hint of oak spice, some sweet florality but really rather tight. Slowly growing in the glass though. Density, dimension, excellent texture, growing complexity. Great wine. Super finish last drops lovely.

The previous wines were assembled. The following were tasted from cask:

2014 Gevrey-Chambertin Combe Dessus
An open but less formed nose. Nice bright fruit here and with good dimension too. A very pretty, tasty and complex wine. Bit of a gap since I tasted the Vaucrains so maybe not better. But still very good.

2014 Clos de Vougeot
Deep, expressive top notes, despite a hint of reduction. Really good structure, direct in aspect, a hint of coffee complexity. Wide and very impressive. Excellent CV no question.
