Axelle on 2015:
Splendid! A little oïdium in the young vines in the terraces. A really great purity of fruit in the tanks when fermenting.

Axelle on 2014:
I’ve the impression that wines are in the same direction of 2013 but with a little more weight and fruit, though not all the wines are through their elevage yet. It’s our first vintage with labels of AB (Agriculture Biologique), though there’s been nothing in the vines for 10 years now.

The wines…

The malos are done and the racking will start in January – probably. Clearly the wines here, Bourgogne excepted, have some more elevage to complete, but the general quality looks very promising.

2014 Bourgogne Les Grands Chaillots
Vines under Nuits with deep soil and some clay; iron stones that help drainage. Frosted in 2009. Lot of water here. Only 7 barrels in .45 ha in 2015, 9 barrels in 2014. Racked about 2 days and will be bottled in a couple of weeks. ‘I thought why not bottle a little earlier as it was tasting so good!’
Deeply coloured. Deep fruit, faintly floral above. Silky with a beautiful width of dark flavoured fruit. Fresh finishing and holding a nice concentration in the finish. Definitely a Bourgogne of Nuits with a structure but great fruit.

2014 Nuits St.Georges Les Terrasses
Mainly 1 + 2 year-old barrels but a little new. Here a barrel from 2010.
A little reduced. Weighty, fresh again, nice waves of fruits as the reduction is lifting. A lovely wine of weight and sufficient acidity.

2014 Nuits St.Georges Les Vallerots
Gets the rising but not the setting sun. Above Vaucrains but really opposite Poulets
Lovely width, then tightens a little, but silky aromatics. Padded, concentrated with a growing intensity and directness of flavour. Super mineral flavour in the finish – the acidity is modestly active.

2014 Nuits St.Georges Hautes Pruliers
Only eight barrels from .68 ha – here a new barrel.
A rather tight nose, interesting complexity, but you have to concentrate to find it, maybe a note of licorice and flowers too. Lush, wide, super-tasty – really a wine to luxuriate in. Layered again in the finish. Yum!

2014 Nuits St.Georges Aux Allots
Next to Grandes Vignes in northern Nuits, touching Vosne. 0.92 hectares of multiple vine ages up to 100 yo – about 30 hl/ha.
Also a rather tight if weight impression to the nose. A little less together but with fine intensity and again layers of fruit – super tasty, a suggestion of minerality in the finish. Nose slowly opens.

2014 Vosne-Romanée
A new barrel. 0.60 hectares over 4 parcels; Champs Boudin, Aux Ormes below, the Bas Mazières heading towards the Clos de Vougeot, plus Barreaux near Cros Prantoux.
Deep colour. The nose slowly widening, and becoming more expressive. Complex, beautifully complex, again layers comes to mind here with some oak, the wine finishing on a stony note. Very yum!
