Françoise on 2019:
“Our 2019s will be bottled at the end of the year. Our 2018s are already mainly sold. It was an easy vintage in the vines – we are still in conversion to organic but it was a very easy year for the treatments, and nicely for us, we have two crus that will be allowed to have 1er cru labels.”
A very strong set of wines – partly ethereal, partly dynamic, always delicious!
2019 Pouilly-Fuissé Vers Pouilly
Marne and limestone here – it will have 18 months elevage.
A compact nose but with fine clarity. Mouth-filling, juicy layers of flavour. That has really a fine personality with a hint of elegance from floral finishing notes and a more than excellent finish. Lovely wine.
Mid-slope on limestone
Also slightly compact aromas but with more depth of riper fruit – nice balance despite the ripeness. Hmm – that’s got a fine, ethereal quality to it – mouth-filling but nothing heavy – beautiful texture and again and finishing flavour that’s practically juicy – it just needs to work on its nose – great finishing. A potentially great PF!
2019 Pouilly-Fuissé Le Pierre à Canard
A little more open, certainly much more depth of aroma. Here is more concentration of flavour but the same airy almost ethereal style to the last wine. A super burst of juiciness in the finish – long, long – so good!
A blend of multiple parcels on multiple soil types.
Relatively compact aromatics – like all of these today – but with a little citrus width bringing interest. The most impact, the most energy too – really mouth-watering – I love the dynamic style that this wine has. Juicy intensity in the finish – but not full-volume – there retains a certain calm. Bravo!
