Sebastien on 2019:
“2019 was a modest volume harvest for us. We lost a lot of potential volume due to the frost which mainly hit the bottom of Fuissé – here we had only about 15 hl/ha – the slopes were hardly touched if you compare. It’s a vintage where the maturities came quickly and there’s plenty of richness in the wines.”
Sebastien is currently still with cork. He telly me that he’s had some issues here and there so is testing DIAM right now… He’s clear that he would prefer to stay with cork if the issues are fixed though…
A mix of vintages. The 2019s showing great and attractive early energy. The 2018s showing a more powerful aspect that emphasises your need for patience a little more – it’s probably the different balance of the two vintages that is speaking the loudest.
2019 Mâcon-Fuissé Vers Chânes
Only tank elevage here – about 1 ha here
A bright nose, still a little fermentary. A mouthful of energy, slightly saline, overtly mineral too. The finish with super mouth-watering length.
2019 Pouilly-Fuissé La Raidillons
To be bottled probably in February – 400 l barrel elevage.
An open, too young but still inviting nose – plenty of freshness here. Some gas but open and with tons of exuberant, energetic, freshness – vibrant and quite exciting wine. Lovely finishing, really…
An assembly of many small parcels at the bottom of the slopes which was bottled in July.
A tighter nose. More sombre after the energy of the last, but open and with a clarity of flavour. The mouth-watering finish is really something, a wine that just needs a bit more starting personality today.
2018 Pouilly-Fuissé La Raidillons
Just a little more open, riper, more golden fruit visible here. Mouth-filling, very good energy again. Like all, the structure here shows that you would be advised to have a little patience – lovely finishing intensity here – yum – be patient though!
Not yet bottled – south-facing vines but on altitude.
More open than the bottled 18s – quite vibrant – maybe some gas here. Yes! Clarity and volume in the mouth. Ooh, that’s completely delicious finishing – lovely purity of fruit flavour in the finish. Bravo!
