Christophe is mainly responsible for the commercial aspects of the domaine and has been here since 2019. Stéphanie is still responsible for the winemaking.

On 2020 and more:
The 20s are in bottle but practically nothing has been commercialised just yet. We had some losses from the heat in 2020 so it’s not a big vintage in terms of volume – but enough. Unlike the 2021s! Here we made less than 20 hl/ha. Our main area of vines is the plateau above Beine and it was hard hit by the frost. Because of this, we have, unfortunately, to put a brake on all the lovely new relationships we have with importers as we will have practically no wine. We still have some small stocks of the 2017s and 2018s – which will help – but they won’t last for long… Back to 2020, for us it’s a vintage with a little roundness but there’s freshness too, so it’s quite a Chablis vintage here – more so than the 2019s or 2018s

The wines…

My first visit in Chablis this year. The first wines had a little greenness but were still very tasty and properly Chablis in style. Some very good wines at this domaine.

All bottled. The first use of DIAM here was in 2007 for their entry wines and thereafter slowly expanding their use. Since 2011 for the whole range:

2020 Petit Chablis
They have 4 hectares above Beine; one part with a bit more clay the other with more limestone.
Hmm, that’s a nice big, round nose – inviting too as it becomes more perfumed. Bubbling with energy and mouth-watering with attractive flavour. Really a tasty wine – completely delicious and lasting well

2020 Chablis
More direct, some herby greenness but lime aroma too. Bigger and with more energy too – that’s a beautifully mouth-watering wine. Really excellent and very tasty! Long, mineral finish.

2020 Chablis Vieilles-Vignes
A blend of parcels.
Broader and, again, with plenty of herb – but more attractive. Larger-scaled and beautifully mineral. Vibrant with waves of excellent, proper Chablis flavour. Yum!

2020 Chablis 1er Beauroy
‘A lot of clay in the soil here.’
The first impression is a little softer and more floral but this is direct, mineral, mouth-watering wine – much more saline than the previous bottles. That’s really super again.

2020 Chablis 1er Côte de Lechet
Unlike the soil in Beauroy, mainly small stones here.
Broader, more structural and certainly with a more saline nose, slowly adding some floral references too. Structural from a flavour perspective – correct – good intensity. A wine to wait for more than the Beauroy but a very good one.

Some longer elevage wines:

2020 Chablis 1er Beauroy ‘from a jar/amphora’
Floral like the Beauroy but with a bit more structural impression. Extra complex – broad, mineral but there’s something extra here too. Almost more in between the previous two wines in style.

2020 Chablis Vieilles-Vignes
4 barrels, one new
Lightly reductive, spiced not vanilla style. Again that’s very direct, a little silkier – very mineral. Long – of course with oak but in an attractive and not creamy or vanilla style.

Agree? Disagree? Anything you'd like to add?
