Eve & Jean-Pierre on 202172020:
2021 – it’s about 20 hl/ha here – we had 15 hl/ha in 2016 so it’s better than that, but…
In 2020 we had more like about 45 hl/ha – we’re organic so that’s actually not a bad volume (From 2019 the domaine was recertified organic, having dropped out in 2016.) The freshness of the aromas and the agrumes in the 2020s are more typical Chablis this year – they are nicely fresh wines.

The wines…

High achievers at this domaine in 2020 – a lovely range with some potentially great wines…

Nothing was bottled at this time – but they were close to starting:

2020 Chablis
Usually from 13 hectares of vines. Bottled end of last year.
Vibrant and perfumed – attractively citrussy. This is lovely in the mouth – modestly structured but deliciously mouth-watering with complex citrus – simply delicious! Super finishing and zesty – that’s excellent and could improve further…

2020 Chablis ‘Part des Anges’
A parcel selection – always the same when made – opposite the domaine right next to the 1er cru.
An extra high-toned freshness here – more overt salinity is visible. More direct and silkier – less width but with a lovely, direct, shape – this is also excellent and almost certainly will be great villages!

2020 Chablis 1er Vaucoupins
‘For us, we find that this place always puts the terroir before the vintage.’ This and the previous planned for a February bottling.
Wider and an extra aromatic minerality is visible – this is very attractive – though maybe a suggestion of a green complexity. Mouth-filling – super energy with waves of flavour. All fine flavours – complex agrumes too. Another wine that’s simply excellent – love this finishing weight and complexity – with lots of fine citrus bitters…

2020 Chablis 1er Fourchaume
No plan for bottling yet – but Springtime.
This has quite a vibrant nose – complex and interesting. Cooler, more direct, perhaps a little green but also saline and mouth-watering. The texture is lovely – the flavour really broad in the finish – direct and long.

2020 Chablis 1er Les Fourneaux
Some oak elevage partly in demi-muids, all old – filtered this morning.
Less expressive but also quite elegant. Very silky, again direct, more intense but with a hint of fat to the texture – only a hint – opening out wide with lemon-skin complexity.

2020 Chablis 1er Mont de Milieu
Almost all with some barrel elevage.
More depth, and width to this depth too – that’s lovely – if still a little compact. Vibrant, dynamic wine – that’s great in the mouth – so much energy, no hard edges – certainly not ‘elegant’ but here’s a tour de force of energy. So delicious – bravo!
