Thomas is responsible for the vines and the cellar – he’s been here just long enough to check the grape maturities before the 2023 harvest, describing 2022 as a very interesting and quite sunny vintage – oh, and 2023 too !!
The wines…
Such sophistication – the texture of these tannins is the best in Beaujolais this year. Such great wines – it only required ‘a little’ investment !!
All Trescasses NDtech for the higher wines, it will be DIAM for the ‘entry wines:’
A fine perfume, rather floral too. Ultra fine texture, mineral, fluid, there’s depth to this finishing flavour with a small accent of finishing creaminess. That’s such a sophisticated wine – I’m tempted to say great but it’s only the first one!
Deep, slightly reductive but vibrantly aromatic – there’s a floral accent to this perfume too – it’s a great nose. Beautiful again in the mouth – so silky, a fluidity too – but there is also concentration – the intensity tempered by the fluidity – such beautiful, pure cherry fruit that fades so very slowly – great Brouilly already…
Deeply coloured. Starting with tighter top notes but such a breadth of aroma in the bass-line. More mouth-filling energy – fluid – very silky again – the quality of the tannins here is now the best in the Beaujolais – in this vintage. A beautifully linear, long finishing line of great flavour. Bravo – despite the sightly closed nosed!
2022 Brouilly La Chaize
The vines behind the château – the oldest vines of the domaine here but together with low yields and too much black rot this parcel of 120-year-old vines is to be replanted.
A more open breadth of aroma – here for the first time with some oak notes. Gorgeous in the mouth once more – intense, clean, precise – oaked for sure. I’d wait at least 2-3 years for this but what a beautiful wine !!
2022 Côte de Brouilly Chavannes
A very different aromatic – such width, with faintly saline additions to the complexity. In the mouth too – panoramic width – so juicy, super energy here. I love the finishing flavour too – starting intense and slowly fading. The last impression a micro-grain of tannin. Simply beautiful wine…
A much finer, fluid, airy and perfumed aromatic – beautiful! A wine that melts over the palate with cool, fluid fruit flavour and wonderful texture – like the last with a finishing trace of tannin but not really dryness. Intense again before slowly fading – in shape these two CdB are very similar but this one is much more perfumed today – and it’s a great wine!
