Philippe on 2021 & 2022:
I lost more than 40% of my production in 2021 – it’s no surprise – but I have good returns on the wines. I think 2022 will be very good but the wines are still in elevage – fortunately I will have twice as many bottles to sell as I was also able to by some grapes – organic grapes to augment my production. I didn’t play with my 2021 cuvées – they are labelled from 10.5% to 12% – it’s what they were!

The wines…

In my experience, always interesting and very drinkable wines from Philippe – it’s the case in 2021 too, despite a little ‘gentian’ in a couple of cuvées. Great labels too!

2021 Beaujolais Villages
Vines at 500m,
Broad, leafy, a little pyrazine in this aromatic complexity. Supple but direct and fluid – I like the mouth-watering energy – the pyrazine is more herbed in the flavours – and a faint finishing tannin to round out the experience, I like this finish.

2021 Régnié Haute Ronze
A mix of parcels with various altitudes – one of which is from 90-year-old vines. This a co-vinification of all the parcels in Hautes Ronze.
Hmm – high tones but there’s nothing green here – floral perfumed red fruit. I really like the shape – the architecture – of this wine. This has an easy, mouthwatering, style to it – that’s delicious and just very drinkable, good complexity – even a little tea – that’s the second wine today! Super wine!

2021 Régnié Mosaïque
One part of this made with 100-year-old vines. ‘Only’ 10.5°’
Hmm – darker fruit – a little herbed but not the typical higher-toned green notes – it’s an intesting herbed accent. But in the mouth there is a hint of pyrazine – but great shape and beautifully mouth-watering red fruit. The finish is slightly more generous – and, frankly, absolutely delicious and even perfumed in the finish.

2021 Fleurie Poncié
Just behind the chateau on a very sandy soil.
Red-fruited freshness – of fine width. Cool, broad, almost creamy – like the 2020 – the tannin has a different shape here – yes there’s a demi-muid (500-litre) in the flavours – and it’s delicious.

2021 Morgon Corcelette
At the bottom – near the cemetery – ‘Also near Côte du Py!’
A higher-toned, perfumed, freshness – maybe a suggestion of gentian in here. But in the mouth this is cool, clean and complex – direct for sure – it’s Morgon! The flavour broadening out over the palate, lots of finishing bitters for interest – wait for this.
