Adeline on 2022:
“2022 was another warmer year but easy for treatments – we stopped ploughing early so the vineyards didn’t dry out too much – butwe were happy with the volume – 55 hl/ha.”
Adeline on 2021:
“Not as bad as 2017, we had 39 hl/ha and no maladies. The last of the wines are being prepared for bottlings – racked into tank while the 22s have been put into the barrel cellar. We produced 39 hl/ha so we can be happy with that.”
The wines…
Fine to top-class wines – as I have come to expect each time I visit this domaine. The family here are not the most talkative in my visits to Chablis – but their wines are eloquent enough for everyone!
2021 Chablis
This nose is a little tight. But in the mouth, this is beautifully airy and subtly complex wine – almost a little sweet. Fine finishing minerality, with a faintly grained texture.
‘Similar terroir to Côte de Léchets, but a bit more argilles blanches. Otherwise, it’s the same exposure, 400 metres as the crow flies.’
Much more open aromas today and beautifully floral. More incisive and defined with a really juicy intensity. I love this chiselled wine – bravo
A broader nose but also one that’s fine and floral. A broader and more mouth-watering panorama of flavour. Melting flavour, airy finishing – that’s less direct than the Beauroy but no less great – a beautiful wine.
‘Actually, it’s Forêts but I didn’t want confusion with the similar label of Vincent Dauvissat,’ says Laurent. Adeline says ‘Grandfather René planted these vines near the Forêts of Vincent Dauvissat, in a place where there’s more soil and fewer stones’
Here the aroma resembles the Cote de Lechets but with a little extra generosity. This being the most incisive of these three 1ers the volume of flavour growing and growing. And it’s beautifully long too.
