This is an old family exploitation. Jérôme’s father sold all the produce to the cooperative – but Jérôme decided to take a different route. He bought some vines in Fleurie 10 years ago and some more in Brouilly just 3 years ago. Since 2019 he has a small wineshop in Beaujeu where you can buy the vines – this is where we tasted.

The domain today covers 5 hectares, of which the product of about half is still sold directly to the coop, though Jérôme is commercialising more himself each year. Apart from some white, there are no more 2021s – ‘the wines went very quickly’ – but there are still some 20s and 22s to taste!

The wines…

A very good range of tasty wines – the oaked wines are quite obviously oaked but still very tasty.

2020 Beaujolais Villages Rouge Gorge
Vines in Beaujeu
A nicely direct nose – not too ripe though darker fruit than the average 2021. Juicy, mouth-watering wine – darker fruit, slightly baked fruit with a creamy accent. Tasty wine.

2022 Brouilly
In Beauvoir – St.Lager. Just a few days in bottle…
A much finer nose, more floral perfumed and pure – lovely! I like the energy, the intensity of this – that’s very lovely wine.

2022 Brouilly Gorge du Loup
A broader, calmer nose – lighter but still attractively perfumed. Fuller and rounder in the mouth. More tannin – more structure too – but never too much. A very good wine…

2022 Fleurie Rose des Vents
High vines on the top of the hill.
Lots of colour. Very perfumed fruit, almost cushioned. Extra concentrated – wide with mouth-watering darker fruit – a delicious style to this still, despite the concentration.

2019 Le Fleurie d’Antan
‘A natural wine.’ Bottled with nitrogen atmosphere – not made every year.
A smaller nose, slightly reductive. Nicely mouth-filling with good energy – a vibrant wine. Supple in the middle and broadening over the palate – delicious finishing – a beauty!

2020 Fleurie Haute Couture
Vines planted 1915-1925 – two years of elevage for this.
Concentrated aromatics – plenty of creamy barrel – mainly 228s and a 400-litre barrels. The fruit is a little roast in style but the texture is supple and the oak is overt. A concentrated wine of good energy – but I wouldn’t touch one for 4-5 years – hopefully the oak will have largely faded in this time.

2021 Beaujolais Villages Chant du Rossignol
In Quincié
An airy width with a faint toast. There’s ripeness to this fruit but with good energy and shape – mouth-watering. The finish is a strong one – very nice.

2020 Beaujolais Villages Chantemerle
This time vines in Beaujeau – planted in 2004 – bottled October after 2 years of elevage.
The oak is mixing with the ripe fruit here – not too creamy. Round, nicely mouth-watering. This is a very tasty wine – the oak is obvious but for my palate borderline ‘not too bad!’ Finishing clean and interesting.
