Marie on 2023:
We are really happy with 2023 – yes all the white 1er crus were hit by hail this year but the generosity of the vintage meant that we still have some meaningful volumes – nearly half a yield – which didn’t look possible in July.

Marie on 2022:
The bottlings have already been done since 31 August. We had a nice sunny year – almost a normal volume after 3 consecutive smaller, and more complicated vintages. Our fermentations were easy too – no complications – it’s still a warmer year with 13-14° natural – so a warm one.

The wines…

‘Fluidity and clarity mixed with appealing energy – the leitmotif for this domaine’s reds in 2022.

All the whites and the base reds – for 8 years now – are with DIAM. It’s cork from 1er Cru reds:

2022 Bouzeron Les Corderes
Vines planted in 1937, part of the domaine since 2002.
A narrow nose – there’s minerality here. Broad over the palate, mineral steely almost a suggestion of the metallic – but juicy too – with a long, concentrated finish, lightly touched by a tannic texture in the finish. That’s a very good wine.

2022 Rully Blanc
The assembly of 2 vines – this bottled 1st September.
Still with shy top notes but a width of more open, yellow-fruited aromatics a its base – slowly a small note that’s floral too. In the mouth it has a similar floral character to the nose, sweet but impeccably balanced. That’s simply excellent villages – with a fine finish too.

2022 Rully 1er Margotés Blanc
Planted in 1999, bottled yesterday…
Also a shy nose but one that’s even more overtly floral than the villages. Broad, with a nice wiry structure – really impressive intensity – and long, long – I love it!

2022 Rully 1er Vauvry Blanc
Planted in the mid 80s.
Here the nose is broader – closer in style to the villages than the Margotés – at least to start – but then opens, offering more high tones with air. Broader, a bubbling complexity here – very different in style – slowly ingraining itself a lovely wine easy to appreciate and with a fine vibration of finishing flavour too. Lovely.

2022 Rully 1er La Pucelles Blanc
Limestone with some clay in the mix, planted in 1992. This from tank – it will be bottled in 2 weeks – not yet filtered.
A deeper and more concentrated nose. Mouth-filling with much vibrant flavour – slightly golden citrus and another with impressively growing intensity. Another winner – I love the finish of this.

Les Reds

2022 Rully Chaponnières
Just bottled
A good, high-toned, almost textured dark red fruit. Quite silky and direct – a wine of admirable fluidity and silky texture – a great entry wine – Bravo!

2022 Rully 1er Clous
Bottled this morning – it’s now 14h30!
An easy but clean width of aroma – there’s an impression of silk to this red fruit. Fluid again but with a clarity mixed with appealing energy – the leitmotif for this domaine in 22. Successive waves of finishing energy. Simply excellent.

2022 Rully 1er Preaux
Just below the Clous and both planted at the start of the 1960s. To be bottled in the coming days.
A larger scale nose – of depth too. More textured depth and apparent concentration. A deeper register of flavours and a hint of saline complexity – a wine to contemplate more but that’s really delicious!!

2022 Mercurey
2 parcels assembled to make this – bottled yesterday.
A more airy impression to this wine – pretty red fruits – more open less massive. There’s a few mm of cushion here but then you see the structure – good structure and a mouth-watering, melting fruit flavour. Flavour that adheres to the tongue and holds long – that’s another success – really a super cellar in 22…

2022 Mercurey 1er Les Veully
For filtering next week, bottling the week after.
Pretty and open red fruit aromas. More compact yet with lots of depth a hint more diffuse but with delicious flavour.

2022 Mercurey 1er Les Nauges
Same stage as the last.
Lighter red colour. An airy nose, again with pretty red fruit – finer. Yes more direct, finer shaped with a more structure and juicy focus to these flavours. Lovely.

2022 Mercurey 1er Champ Martin
Plain south facing. Unlike the previous 2 wines this is still in barrel – but it is assembled, done in August
Hmm – a nose that’s a floral and fruit hybrid – it’s very pretty indeed. Large-scale, fine texture, and growing with an intensity of juicy flavour. Great finishing. Simply a top Mercurey – bravo!
