Romaine on 2022 & 2021:
“Yes we’re happy with this 2020 vintage – and what a difference to 2021: I worked in the vines last year (2021) and it was practically only rain – and that was after the frost too. But the wines have really surprised me after bottling – they are very pleasing. ”
The wines…
Bravo – a full-house – three exceptional wines that are all worth a special search!
Not so long bottled.
Modest colour. Vibrant – full wc perfumed – but a proper perfume with a faint background smokiness. Light but mouth-filling – beautifully textured and through and through perfumed flavour that redolent of the nose. Wide, red fruited and so inviting – it begs you to take another sip – bravo Bourgogne!
Again 2 years of elevage. Planted in the 1950s a type of gamay called ‘petit-grain, planted by Julien’s grandfather – who is still around.
More colour. Good aromatic width with plenty of rose perfume and smoky complexity. Cool, incisive but with plenty of width and concentration too. Nicely structured and mouth-watering in the finish. I love this!
And the white:
Just in bottle for 2 weeks – ‘it’s very fresh!’
A less forward nose but still with an inviting width of more golden fruit. Great shape in the mouth – a combination of structure, minerality and mouth-watering citrus-led flavour. Almost a little creaminess in the finish. Just TOO drinkable – bravo!
