Guillaume on 2022:
2022 – we are very happy – the reds weren’t a big volume but I’m very happy with the whites.

Guillaume on 2021:
2021 was a minuscule harvest – the lowest I ever made. Of course, we were frosted, but it was hailed where it wasn’t frosted! We certainly made less than half – probably about 60% losses. We didn’t make much wine in 2019, 2020 was quite good, but still, it’s not far from a full vintage that we’ve lost in these three. Wines are bottled – in fact there’s so little that they are also all sold!”

The wines…

Wines that you should have a little patience with – but the reds might be the better early drinkers. Always delicious wines here.

2021 Pouilly-Fuissé VII
From, surprise, surprise – 7 parcels.
A depth of aroma – not full width – but still a good invitation. Mouth-filling but melting with good flavour, a little softness of texture. Vibrant finishing and long – that’s clearly the most exciting part of this wine today – it’s how you remember it – super!

2020 Pouilly-Fuissé Vers Cras
Aromatically much more ample – rounder, faintly accented with the sweetness of barrel. A little more direct and with a hint more visible structure too. There’s more barrel padding to balance this wine. Yellow-citrus finishing flavour, and faintly tannic too.

Les Reds:

2021 Mâcon-Bussières Rouge Coline
Young Gamay on clay – all destemmed – and in bottle for 2 hours!
Plenty of colour. Direct, pure, an almost silky nose. Fresh and energetic – this is a lovely wine – you can have softer but this combination of mouth-watering energy and structure is just so deliciously moreish. Long, mineral and absolutely delicious – excellent.

2021 Macon-Bussières Les Devants
With some barrel elevage.
Plenty of colour again. A little more complexity, some width, and complexity. Broad, mouth-watering, plenty of acidity. More frank yet a lovely finishing intensity. Keep this a year or two. Yum!
