Laurent on 2022:
Yes, we are happy! It was a super harvest with lovely grapes – we enjoyed the volume and the fact that we didn’t need to do a lot of triage – the fermentations could have been a little quicker though – I think the wines in elevage a little fragile.

Laurent on 2021:
I feel that the gamay supported this vintage’s conditions quite well – but it was much more difficult for the pinot. The pinot is more fragile and we have deeper soils so when it’s very wet it’s a problem as the pinot is less tolerant of this ‘humidity’ – much less. Overall, for us, it was about one-third of a normal harvest.

The wines…

A reliable range from these producers – a little more towards the natural side but their Pouilly-Loché and (as usual!) their Cremant Cuvée Prestige are simply excellent.

2021 Bourgogne Pinot Noir Chant de la Tour
Older barrel elevage. Destemmed and cooled before fermentation, one remontage per day, end of fermentation after pressing into barrel. Bottled in August.
Fine and direct aromatics, very red berry fruit of good clarity. A supple, silky, easy wine to enjoy today. Subtly mouth-watering too – the acidity present but never forceful. Just a delicious, easy-to-drink wine!

2021 Mâcon-Serrières Les Graves
Gamay
Hmm – that’s a very inviting width of aroma – very faintly suggesting a little green – but still very inviting. Silky, mouth-filling, almost a little creamy – with fine and moreish finishing purity.

2020 Mâcon Rouge Les Perrières
All gamay from Mâcon-Charnay, quite a limestone soil for these 60-year-old vines – whole cluster with a daily remontage.
This nose is more direct, more airy, and redder fruit with a little extra perfume. Broad, silky, some structure. That’s another very delicious thing!

Les whites:

2021 Bourgongne Blanc Les Chênes
Actually a declassified Mâcon-Loché – vines that are almost 80 years old with barrel elevage – older barrels.
A little appley complexity to this energetic aroma. Direct, plenty of acidity, appley again – a malic style of acidity but a finish that leaves you wanting more – this is good!

2021 Mâcon-Loché Cuvée du Clocher
4 hectares of vines in this – tank elevage – made without any additions – also no additions for the bottling.
A much more floral nose. Mouth-filling with good energy again. Again a little apple but less than the previous. Good finishing energy here – really very tasty wine.

2021 Pouilly-Loché 1ére Réserve
Three parcels here that are a mix of granitic and argilo-calcaire soils.
A more composed nose – less open top notes but broader at the base. More mineral and a little more direct but certainly with plenty of width too. Cool fruited and fine energy – then a burst of finishing intensity – this is excellent wine – just lovely!

Cremant Cuvée Prestige
It’s 100% chardonnay. Both fermentations were done in barrel, then about 15% of the new vintage is added to make the mousse, so this is, at the base, a 2017 – with 15% added 2018 grape juice for the ‘dosage’
Hmm – the classic nose for this wine – golden fruit with faint apple notes. Lots of mousse but not large bubbles. Fading in a delicious width. Such a tasty and reliable cuvée from this domaine – I buy it whenever I see it!
