Jean-Charles on 2022:
“Well, I produced nearly 3 times as many bottles of 2022 than I did of 2021 – 45,000 bottles versus 17,000! The 2022s are super – I adore them! – it was a good harvest and 2023 isn’t better in terms of volume but could be similar in quality. We have good prices so much is already sold out. And for 2023, yes, it’s definitely been a lot easier to find the grapes!”
The wines…
Consistent, tasty, indeed worthy wines – with very advantageous prices!
All DIAM seals and bottled, the last were done in October:
2022 Bourgogne Côte d’Or Les Meix Grapins
Vines in Corpeau
Direct, clean, darker fruit. Mouth-filling. Juicy, there’s a little structure here but also a mouthful of delicious flavour.
A more direct and steely aromatic. More fluid flavour too – framed by grainless tannin – that has super intensity – simply excellent Bourgogne and for the prices here a great wine! Love that finish.
2022 Rully
This nose is more airy yet with a direct side. More intense and juicy direct wine – that’s fine width too – modestly tannic – keep it back for 2 years and then enjoy.
2022 Cote de Nuits Villages
Vines in Fixin
Very aromatic, floral too – that’s a lovely invitation. Fuller, a different structure – extra depth to this flavour. Extra depth to the structure too but it’s delicious in the finish – that’s lovely again – simply excellent CDNV!
2022 Auxey-Duresses Sur Melin
More red fruit width – airy, fresh and inviting. Direct, cool hmm – high-toned fruit. Perhaps a hint of gentian flower but this is very delicious and complex !!
2022 Monthelie
Extra complexity to a similar red fruit – you sense the structure but this wine remains very inviting. Wide, more silky, fluid flavour. Juicy finishing – yes!
2022 Chassagne-Montrachet Vieilles-Vignes
More vertical – fine top notes and a wonderful depth. Complex, more herbed but with width and length too. Very broad finishing – a wine not fully together today but with some properly great parts – give it 3 years!
2022 Santenay 1er Gravieres
More airy aromatics. Wider, more silky in style another with a certain cool fluidity to the flavours. The finish is super – simply excellent wine!
2022 Volnay
A larger nose – deep, more ripe dark fruit. Hmm – here there is more wine but a bit more dryness to the structure too. A real mouthful but keep your patience – 3 years – there are plenty of finishing bitters in this finish
2022 Pommard Les Cras
Deep colour – fresh, direct notes. Larger scale with more open flavour. Still has a tannic velour but it’s a little less insistent than the Volnay. That’s going to be very good – but wait 2 years.
Les Whites:
2022 Bourgogne Aligoté Vieilles-Vignes
‘From old vines of 50 years-old from ‘Corpeau-Montrachet‘ – I think it’s great soil for Bourgogne’
Broad, airy and inviting. Not a steely hard aligoté this is made by someone from (near) Puligny – it’s open, lovely, modestly structured and very tasty – lovely finishing.
2022 Bourgogne Chardonnay Les Louères
Near Puligny, almost a hectare
More width and definition – some floral notes too. Good shape and modest sucrosity. Hmm – juicy, mineral and direct finish – love that finish!
2022 Bourgogne Chardonnay Les Champs Huillier
Vines nearer Chassagne, the last closer to Puligny, vines a little older.
Extra mineral style width for this wine. Hmm – love this mouth-filling more mineral style – some creamy oak in this delicious finish – that’s a lovely wine – wait 6-12 months to drink…
2022 Mâcon La Roche Vineuse
A fine volume of aroma – easy and inviting. Riper fruit – but not exotic. Broad, with good concentration and fine texture. Really delicious and far from an ‘obvious’ ripe Mâcon.
2022 Mâcon-Lugny Saint-Pierre
Extra width, a shining impression to this fruit. Really wide – cool, quite impressive wine – a little green complexity in the middle but this is fresh, tasty wine with a very lovely finish!
2022 Rully
From 2 parcels
A deeper aromatic – slightly reductive. Complex, mineral, nicely structured – wide and tasty finishing, more saline complexity here. Lovely.
2022 Auxey-Duresses Les Hautés
After the aromatic depth of the Rully this more high-toned and wide. More direct and linear, a base that’s a little mineral and flavour of bubbling energy. A finish that spreads beautifully over the palate.
2022 Pernand-Vergelesses
A large scale nose – a little toasty. In the mouth too the toasty oak is visible – but with fine shape in the mouth, some minerality and a very tasty finish. Anyway, keep a couple of years to minimise the oak – but super!
2022 Santenay Sous la Roche
That’s a very pretty complexity of fruit – not large scale but very inviting. A mouthful of flavour and energy here – that’s a classy wine – a beauty.
2022 St.Romain
A big fresh width of aroma, faintly green citrus in this case. Large scale – a big volume, clean flavours – almost a little wiry muscle here. Creamy and wide in the finish.
2022 St.Aubin 1er Cru
From Sur Gamay and Frionnes – both small, so assembled.
Lovely width of freshness here – very classy. Hmm – that melts over the palate – some firework reduction in there. Great finishing width of flavour that melts over the palate. Yes!
2022 Puligny-Montrachet
One parcel
A more airy aromatic but with supporting energy. Large in scale – there’s a lovely architecture to this wine – wiry muscle and punchy flavour – that will be super – wait 2 years!
2022 Chassagne-Montrachet
Also a broad aroma but here with a little more concentration. Fine in the mouth, rounder but still properly structured – just more cushion today. A villages wine with power. A finish to chew on – that’s a super wine!
2022 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Hameau de Blagny
A super nose – there’s a width of faint toast and fruit energy. Hmm – that’s a fine, direct wine with super energy and clarity/complexity of flavour – proper 1er cru – that’s lovely.
