2009 Olivier Antoine et Rachel Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Liards

By billn on May 17, 2011

Producing since 2006, this is the first vintage that Antoine is happy with. The aromas are completely different – wider and less deep. There is plenty of velvet tannin and a lovely fresh fruit flavour – that said the structure is appreciable – today at least.

2009 Javillier Patrick Meursault Cuvée Tête de Murger

The nose offers more impact and density; a little gingerbread. Round in the mouth, with very good density. The intensity is still on the upward curve after you swallow – impressive and classic Meursault.

2009 Olivier Antoine et Rachel Santenay Les Coteaux Sous La Roche

(Blanc) Medium colour. Hints of toasted bread on the nose, hints of cream too. Fine balance, depth of flavour and decently intense too – once more with a suggestion of cream.

2009 Javillier Patrick Aloxe-Corton

This has a nice violet-flower aroma with a few hints of reduction below. There is width, some intensity and certainly more than one dimension of flavour – it lingers very well too. A fine villages.

2009 Olivier Antoine et Rachel Santenay Bievaux (blanc)

Medium-pale colour. Lovely density coupled to equally lovely acidity – the intensity grows and grows – there’s a lovely mid-palate peak too. I like this a lot.

2008 Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanée Clos du Château

By billn on May 16, 2011

Medium colour. Precocious aromas of roses and red fruits – super. Velvet tannin with just an edge of ‘grab’. Beautiful acidity – a wine of beautiful balance.

2008 Jouan Henri Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Echézeaux

By billn on April 16, 2011

Medium colour. First there’s a hint of musky vanilla going on; as the vanilla fades to the background there a more higher-toned, almost floral aroma; finally there is a beautifully precise red berry note – who needs to drink? Clean, with a slighly cushioned texture, fine acity that enables a long line into the finish. You’ve got to search hard to find the tannin. Fresh but not overly so, this is a perfectly fresh berry for plucking right now if you so feel. Lovely, lovely wine.

2009 Bouton Gilles Chassagne-Montrachet

By billn on April 10, 2011

Medium-plus colour. A dark note of coal blends with the fruit. The tannins seem squashable making platelets instead of grains – very good acidity releases mouth-watering fruit flavours. The fruit is quite in the ascendant right now.
