2005 Berthaut Fixin Les Crais

By billn on June 02, 2011

Medium-plus red, perhaps starting to lose some of the colour of youth. The nose is lovely; invitingly deep, dark fruit with a hint of mineral. Mouthfilling, with excellent acidity and still slightly sticky but smooth tannin. There’s plenty of flavour here and a mineral length too. Drinking very well right now – I’m tempted to try some of the other cuvées. Lovely.

2008 Pataille Sylvain Marsannay Les Longerois

Medium-plus, purple-rimmed colour. The nose is a mix of very dark red, almost black cherry and beautiful aromas of violet flowers. In the mouth there are polished, intense dark fruit flavours supported by a lovely acidity. Tannin has a slight grain if you search for it but you need a concious effort to find it. Slowly lingering finish. A beautiful Villages wine.

2009 Olivier Antoine et Rachel Santenay Les Temps de C(e)rises

By billn on May 17, 2011

From four different plots of vines made with about 20% new oak. This was planned as a one-off cuvée in the financial crisis as an easy drinking wine – but customer took to it very well, so… Medium colour. Clean, dark cherry on the nose – fine. Medium weight with a lovely clean intensity – very nice wine.

2009 Javillier Patrick Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Monchevenois

The nose is higher toned and more interesting, with blossom and herbs. Silky texture with a mid-palate expansion of flavour. Good acidity and overall freshness – very nice.

2009 Javillier Patrick Meursault Clos du Cromin

By billn on May 17, 2011

The nose offers hints of oak toast over a sweeter core. Lovely balance and very nice acidity. This is very tasty – not incredibly intense (it seems) but lovely all the same.

2009 Olivier Antoine et Rachel Santenay Les Charmes

By billn on May 17, 2011

Made with 50% whole clusters, from a single vineyard just under Clos Rousseau in the west of Santenay.Medium, medium-plus colour. The nose seems a red-cherry compote. Fuller with lots of interesting and intense flavour – lovely length too. A wine with a very well managed structure – excellent quality.

2009 Javillier Patrick Meursault Les Tillets

The aromas are higher toned; white fruit with a subtle sweetness below. Broad and mouth-watering with fine intensity – lovely, lovely stuff.

2009 Olivier Antoine et Rachel Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Liards

By billn on May 17, 2011

Producing since 2006, this is the first vintage that Antoine is happy with. The aromas are completely different – wider and less deep. There is plenty of velvet tannin and a lovely fresh fruit flavour – that said the structure is appreciable – today at least.
