2009 Lamarche Francois Vosne-Romanée

By billn on April 07, 2011

Fruit for this wine was blended from five parcels. Darker fruit with an obvious spicy Vosne context plus a little oak. This is fuller, rounder and more supple than the Bourgogne, extra intensity too of darker fruit – some licorice and hints of cedar. Good wine!

2005 Dubreuil-Fontaine Volnay

By billn on April 04, 2011

Dark colour. Concentrated red berry – so much so it’s like a sauce reduction. Clinical, clean lines – very linear but silken. Really good intensity and even an impression of flavour! Despite the note it tasted pretty good. Plenty more left for experimenting with the vintage over the next decade and a half!

2009 Leroux Benjamin Puligny-Montrachet

By billn on March 30, 2011

Wide, understated, perhaps a little aromatically loose. Makes a super impression in the mouth; slightly cushioned with fine dimension – excellent for the label.

2009 Leroux Benjamin Meursault Vireuls

By billn on March 30, 2011

A little more aromatic complexity. This has super intensity and much more minerality than the Puligny – long too. What a mouthful of wine – wow.

2007 Mischief and Mayhem Meursault

By billn on March 25, 2011

A while since I tasted this and it now has a little toasted bread which evolves in the glass to gingerbread. Nice texture and lovely, lovely acidity plus a little minerality. A narrow wine in the finish, but a very tasty one!

2007 Mischief and Mayhem Chambolle-Musigny

By billn on March 25, 2011

Aromatically deeper if narrower than the 09. Lovely freshness – far from a typical 07. Good structure and insinuating flavours. There is lots to like here, particularly as the fruit takes a slightly creamy reflection after a time.

2008 Comte Georges de Vogüé Chambolle-Musigny

By billn on March 24, 2011

The nose starts heavily fruited and perfumed. Beautiful detail, acidity and super intensity. There’s also a little floral dimension to the flavours. Great start!

2008 Vougeraie Gevrey-Chambertin La Justice

By billn on March 24, 2011

As a little reduction lifts this becomes a little musky to go with pretty dark berries. A narrow entry but very silky. Slowly widens across the tongue, but rather understated after the Grèves.
