Jean-Pierre and Claudine on 2022 & 2021:
With 2022 we are happy with the volume – it’s far from that of 2018 but looks like a style between those of 2019 and 2020, we think.
As for the 2021s, they are seemingly very different in style after the last 3 vintages, but they are balanced and fine, though it’s just half a harvest here.

The wines…

A tasting that was reflective of the vintage – short! That was because the volume in the tanks was so low that for a number of wines it wasn’t possible to run off a sample to taste as the tap was shoulder height but the wine was below that! Very good wines – in particular, their Rugiens and Gouttes d’Or were excellent.

Everything tasted from tank:

2021 Pommard 1er Grands Epenots
To be bottled in March
Here’s a deep and fresh aromatic. Growing broad, a little muscular, wide, ooh like this, it’s got a little metallic impression today but this finish is really insistent. Long, even a little aniseed and licorice complexity. Love that!

2021 Volnay 1er Clos des Chênes
2 parcels
Higher toned and there’s a bit more density to this nose too. Some gas but really lots of mouth-watering concentration without overt density. Broad and long finishing too – quite vibrant – the team seem to have tons of concentration here this vintage. My preferred style is that of the previous GE but this is really good.

2021 Pommard 1er Rugiens
More reductive to start. Direct, mineral, but great energy in the mouth. Here is intensity and depth – a wine that you can chew – really a wine that you should wait for. Great finishing too. This will be excellent but wait!

Les whites:
All the white were being fined – bottling for all will be around March:

2021 Meursault Clos Meix Chavaux
A 5 hectare south-east facing plot
Vibrant and broad – this nose is a super invitation. Fresh, generous, a touch of the mineral and long, vibrant finishing and delicious.

2021 Meursault Clos de Tavaux
1ha monopole next-door to the domaine – 50-year-old vines
A more compact nose with a hint of honey. More incisive fine structured – long, direct finishing, the finish smaller in shape but not length – a narrow beam of persistent flavour.

2021 Meursault 1er Gouttes d’Or
Here’s a finer aromatic of more pure, riper, citrus – thats super. Broad, structural but also juicily tasty. Holding impressively long and impressively wide too – simply an excellent wine.

For the road:

2009 Meursault 1er Gouttes d’Or
Already with some advancement – that’s highly attractive nose. Round, sweet, some honey and almost a cocoa style to this flavour. I’m not sure about the concept of cocoa in my whites but the rest, I like!

Agree? Disagree? Anything you'd like to add?
