Eva on 2022 vs 2021:
“2022 was magnifique – all was in good condition with not too much to triage – it gave us a needed boost after the year of 2021.
“2021 brought 70% less due to all the maladies of the world – it was hard to do the work – in fact just about everything brought its challenges. It seemed like a game of roulette; clearly with temperatures of -7 degrees, the candles couldn’t do much to save us.”
The wines…
A small tour through the domaine’s wines this year – as there is simply so little wine. In the context of the vintage, these are excellent, delicious wines – of quite some textural finesse!
The last of the bottlings were done at the end of March/start of April:
2021 Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits Blanc
A narrow but clean nose – it’s certainly a nice invitation to drink. Supple – actually with plenty of ripeness – but there’s energy and perhaps still a prickle of CO2 too – nicely finishing with good energy. Rich but balanced, tasty, wine.
Les Reds:
2021 Chambolle-Musigny Le Village
Hmm – large and vibrantly aromatic with darker fruit energy – that’s really super. The flavours are framed with a grain of tannin but that will soon fade. Mouth-filling lots of darker fruit intensity. The finish slowly starts to show some extra floral complexity. Keep this for two to three years to calm a little…
2021 Vougeot 1er Clos de la Perrière
Hmm – that’s a beauty – cushioned, with very generous and slightly chocolatey aromatics. A tannin that resembles the Chambolle – it frames the flavours. Depth and layers of delicious flavour. A slightly rustic structure but with a depth to that delicious flavour – just give it 3+ years in the cellar!
2021 Nuits St.Georges 1er Les Murgers
Old and young vines are usually vinified separately here.
Less concentration but more width and with a finer fruit aromas. More direct and fluid – still framed with tannin – but finer-grained than the previous wines – supple finishing, a velvet texture and long finishing. Very lovely – texturally the most sophisticated of these.
2021 Vosne-Romanée 1er Beaux Monts
Easily the most open, beautiful, perfume so far – just great! Also in the mouth – a little more direct, the tannin finer again, growing in width of flavour – that is a simply excellent wine – super Vosne-Romanée. Easily the wine with the most finesse.
2021 Clos St.Denis
Between the village and the vines of Rousseau
An extra aromatic vibration – floral with plenty of cherry-stone complexity too. Great shape – still with enough structure and energy to keep a very nice balance – there’s a growing width of intense flavour here. Holding a proper grand cru finish. That’s a lovely wine – not quite the sophistication/finesse of the Vosne but comparable and with extra grand cru scale. A haunting finish! Simply an excellent grand cru!
