Medium, medium-plus colour. The nose doesn’t have much width, but from top to bottom there’s plenty of depth with high floral tones and deeper dark red/black cherry in the basement, slowly a creamy width starts to fill out the nose. Silky texture, the flesh of the fruit is successfully hiding much of the acidity, then comes a really nice cream-edged fruit – this is very good. I’d drink it sooner or very much later, in-between I suspect the acidity might dominate for a few years. Enjoyed a lot today…

Medium colour. To start there is some animale about the nose, below is a broad if not deep complexity. The animale is quickly replaced with an ever-changing array of aromas before eventually delivering pretty red berries – very impressive. The first impression is a little warmth to the flavours allied to a more mineral dimension. The structure is understated, tannin and acidity being quite discreet. A medium intensity with a fine texture. Super aromatics, the rest is pure understatement

Medium colour. Plenty of wood frames the first aromas, but it’s transient as swirling releases higher-toned fruit that’s almost floral over a deeper, darker more classic base. Not the seamless texture of their 2008, the tannin stands slightly to the side and offers a bitter-chocolate edge, but the flavours are excellent and complex – they only miss the clarity of the 2008.

2007 Barthod Ghislaine Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuées

Medium colour. Deep, interesting, slightly fecund aromas – mmm – then flashes of high-toned fruit and faint spice. Whilst the tannin stands a little to the side, this has the energy and intensity that many 2007s lack. Dark red fruit and some of that dark mineral flavour in the mid-palate and into the finish. Very fine 2007.

Medium colour. Rather focused aromas for a 2007, there’s a burst of dark red fruit, the darkness suggesting a little reduction, there is fine width though more limited depth. Slowly the nose becomes more and more forward. Riper and with slightly improved integration of tannin yet less energetic and extrovert than the Barthod. It is very fine, but I prefer the Barthod.

Almost everything is sold-out here – this is the last bottle! There is good freshness here that has an added richness that is reminiscent of the 2008. There’s a little padding in the texture, abetted by the velvet texture of the tannin. Just a hint of astringency in the finish.

Medium yellow. The nose is of fresh, faintly spritzy, slightly unripe pineapple – which I find preferable to ripe pineapple! The acid is just a little forward but this has a nice kick of concentration and is very moreish in a kind of lemon sorbet vernacular. There’s good texture – the acidity ensuring that there is no obvious fat – and the merest hint of creaminess in the mid-palate. Not bad value and yum.

Medium-pale greeny-yellow. The nose has impact and depth – super – savoury undertones and a dried pineapple. The first sips make me think to grapefruit, mainly because it seems under-sugared – slowly either it mellows or I become less sensitive – I expect it is the latter! Lovely freshness with a hint of peach and a good texture too. The finish is understated but retains some sneaky flavour. I enjoyed this in a slightly masochistic way and perhaps a year or two will allow this to mellow a little.

Blanc. Pale lemon colour. Fine, tight and pretty aromas. A faint hint of transient oak, a little fat and plenty of silk – very mineral with a subtle length, delivered on good acidity. This is very good.
