2006 Boisset Jean-Claude Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits

By on March 31, 2008 #asides

15% new oak but very light in colour. The nose shows that oak, but is also a little richer for it. This is much more flavourful and intense. Very good at this level.

2006 Potel Nicolas Volnay Vieilles Vignes

By on March 31, 2008 #asides

The Potel signature wine is, in 2006, a compendium of around 12 separately vinified parcels whose vines average out at 60+ years old. The nose is wide with a nice complexity of dried berries; cranberry, redcurrant and black cherries – very nice. The palate has good intensity and a background of ripe tannin. The finish is a good one. – recommended as always.

2006 Gambal Alex Meursault Clos du Cromin

By on March 31, 2008 #asides

14.7° natural – and you wouldn’t guess if I didn’t tell you! A deep, dense nose with a tight core of fruit at the centre. This is concentrated and savoury with plenty of mid-palate dimension. The finish gently lingers and there’s no impression fo ‘heat’

2006 Bouchard Père et Fils Volnay Caillerets Ancienne Cuvée Carnot

By on March 31, 2008 #asides

A little softer, red fruits and faintly floral. In the mouth too, soft and a little silky with sweet fruit. There’s a little burst of complexity in the mid-palate before you are hit by some astringent tannin. I feel the oak showing more on the grainy texture than the aromas or flavours.

2006 Potel Nicolas Vosne-Romanée Les Gaudichots

By on March 31, 2008 #asides

Much more depth and density here – this is a grand cru nose. Here is another tight Vosne, but versus all that have gone before, there is an extra creamy density. Only hinting at what’s in the tank, but this will be excellent.

2006 Long-Depaquit Chablis Vaillons

By on March 31, 2008 #asides

Only the older parcels of vines go into this cuvée. A deeper nose, riper but tighter. This is softer but more concentrated with a nice burst of acidity on the mid-palate. I’ve always found this a good value wine, so I await pricing…

2006 Potel Nicolas Echézeaux

By on March 31, 2008 #asides

There is real depth on the nose – like the Gaudichots. More tannin providing extra texture, but there is a more open display of flavour over the palate. Showing much better than any of the Vosne Crus.

2006 Picard Michel Montrachet

By on March 31, 2008 #asides

Dense fruit with a subtle oak undertow. Concentrated yet mineral with a good spine of acidity. Savoury length and more mineral than any of the Bâtards, but not necessarily better.

2006 Bouchard Père et Fils Bourgogne Blanc Les Coteaux des Moines

By on March 31, 2008 #asides

A nicely forward nose with both width and depth. Full of flavour and just a little brioche depth. Stylish and tasty – a super bourgogne.
