2006

2006 Boisset Jean-Claude Puligny-Montrachet

By on March 31, 2008 #asides

The same amount of new oak, but from a different cooper – so more noticeable – but there’s plenty of depth below. A lovely mineral aspect couples to perfect acidity. It’s not fantastically long, but it’s very, very tasty.

2006 Bouchard Père et Fils Beaune Grèves Vigne de l'Enfant Jésus

By on March 31, 2008 #asides

A softer and redder nose. A narrow entry but it bursts across the palate with accessible ripe fruit – structure and complexity follow in the next wave. I think it follows the Bèze much more successfully in 2006 than it did in 2005. Super.

2006 Potel Nicolas Nuits St.Georges Les Damodes

By on March 31, 2008 #asides

Seems a ‘younger’ less formed nose. There is a small step-up in concentration versus the Murguers. This expands very well over the palate and has a super finish – faint oak flavours are to the fore, but still excellent wine.

2006 Gambal Alex Chassagne-Montrachet Clos Saint Jean

By on March 31, 2008 #asides

A quite different pose here – hints of butterscotch play with with sweet fruits on the nose. A ripe, slightly fat texture with good acidity and length.

2006 Gambal Alex Clos de Vougeot

By on March 31, 2008 #asides

50% new oak. A wide nose of red berries, though not so deep as the Chambolle Charmes. This is a mouth-filler! Plenty of tannic structure but equally full of complexity and dimension. Nicely fresh, this is a worthy Clos Vougeot.

2006 Thomas-Moillard Savigny-lès-Beaune Blanc

By on October 31, 2007 #asides

Quite a concentrated nose with a subtle undertone of vanilla. There is nice texture and some depth. There is also a nicely creamy base to this wine – long too. I’m very surprised by the quality of this wine, it’s very , very good.
