2006 Coudray-Bizot Nuits St.Georges Aux Bas du Combe

By on March 31, 2009 #asides

A deeper nose, slightly sweeter nose that gets prettier and prettier with time. Again the acidity is rather tart though the length is good.

Higher-toned thatn the aromas of the two 07’s, with slightly redder fruit than the 07 Echézeaux. A little more structure, plenty of fine tannin, but equally good fruit. This seems more guarded or tighter but it’s clearly very good.

2006 Gouges Henri Nuits St.Georges

Medium. Medium-plus colour. The nose is quite spicy. Ripe, with good width and tannin that only shows itself later and with a hint of astringency. This is quite nice.

2006 Mugneret-Gibourg Georges Echézeaux

Width though not that much depth to the aromatics. A pretty red and black fruit mix, and super width on the palate. Very fine expansion into the mid-plate before slowly lingering. Makes a strong impression.

2006 Gouges Henri Nuits St.Georges Clos des Porrets St.Georges

By on March 31, 2009 #asides

Medium-plus colour. The nose has width despite a tight but silky impression – slowly opens up to show darker notes and a hint of spice. Mouth-filling, again with a little spicy impression. Plenty of tannin and very good acidity. A little more licorice flavour. This clearly needs plenty of time, but it’s very nice!

2006 Giroud Camille Gevrey-Chambertin En Champs

By on March 31, 2009 #asides

Medium, medium-plus colour. The nose is a sweet concoction of very well dovetailed dark oak notes and equally dark cherry fruit. In the mouth you start softly, plenty of sweetness, though the fruit doesn’t seem too ripe. Tannin is only really ’suggested’ quite late, as flavour that peaks in the mid-palate just keeps rolling along. If anything (versus memory) this wine seems slightly denser than the 2005, but the way it just lingers on the tongue is quite the same. A super, if seemingly slightly sweet wine that will drink beautifully for the next year or two, but then you should be patient as it will probably peak closer to 2020.

2006 Liger-Belair Thibault Hautes Côtes de Nuits Le Clos du Prieuré

By on March 31, 2009 #asides

Lots of barrel toast on the nose, quite hard to get at what’s below. Ripe, with good width and a nice acid/tannin balance. Sweet and oaky – which isn’t my preference, but there’s no doubt that it’s a very tasty beverage.

2006 Rion Patrice Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Prieur

By on March 31, 2009 #asides

Medium colour. A caramel nose that almost completely hides the nice red cherry fruit. Nice acidity and plenty of sweet, ripe fruit. Nothing obviously ‘gevrey’ today; faint astringency to the tannin and a decent length. Very tasty indeed, but I’d like a bit more connection with the village – it just needs a little time for that as many young wines need to shake off their elevage. Anyway it’s a good value bottle.

2006 Liger-Belair Thibault Nuits St.Georges Les St.Georges

By on March 31, 2009 #asides

Medium-plus colour. No real impact from the nose, but there is nice, understated complexity that doesn’t seem at all barrel-derived. Very fine grain to the tannin and is set against lovely fruit. The finish is long with some barrel influence. Rather good and currently quite drinkable.
