from this week’s inquisition…
My many thanks for the vigneron(ne)s that put up with my questions this week – many covetable wines for sure! Purely alphabetically: Au Pied de Mont Chauve Jacques Carillon Jean Chartron Comtesse de Chérisey Thomas-Collardot Le Grappin Antoine Jobard… Read More
staying healthy – but now it also gets complicated…
Much is down to chance, but you can also try to be sensible. Last week in Burgundy, the Grands Jours de Bourgogne was sensibly cancelled. 600-1,200 people per venue, pressing to get near to their favourite vigneron(ne)s, pouring, slurping, making the wine as intimate as possible with all… Read More
2018 harvest – 2 september
Our harvest day number 6… With visitors for the weekend, I managed to cajoule a half-day holiday from the domaine on Sunday, returning after lunch for more Chorey rouge – well the domaine does have more than 2 hectares! Nothing more/additional to report there. But I have a few photos…… Read More
Brouilly & Côte de Brouilly – 2017 (2016, 2015…)
Tasted in the offices of InterBeaujolais in Villefranche, 19 and 20 July 2018. What was already apparent last November when tasting 142 2017 Nouveaus, was confirmed by this early tasting of 2017s from Brouilly and Côte de Brouilly: Clearly 2017 is a ripe and concentrated vintage in… Read More
weekend wines – week 26 2018
Three winners this weekend, including two honorary Burgundians, one of whom sadly missed: 2014 Alain Geoffroy, Chablis 1er Fourchaume Relatively pale colour. The nose has a small vibration of minerality but is relatively tight. Wide over the palate but with such a ripe, almost honied flavour that I’m… Read More
week 6 2018 – my weekend wines
A great start and middle, then… 2012 Le Grappin, Savigny-lès-Beaune Hmm – high tones, dark fruit and a fine width of aroma. This wine fills the mouth with freshness and dark sour cherry fruit – it’s mouth-wateringly delicious and that’s before it adds another creamy… Read More
a quick three…
2012 Le Grappin, Beaune 1er Boucherottes Drunk directly following the weekend’s Chambertin. The nose here really cannot compete, it has some high-toned complexity but it is both young and a bit herby for now. The palate, on the other hand, is full of overt, mouth-filling, energy and bright… Read More
2017 harvest – 30 august
Erwan Faiveley has been advertising his up-comng harvest on LinkedIn of all places – and as you can see (right) having a little fun on the way too! Yesterday, the 29th, saw Coche-Dury picking a trio of Meursaults: Perrières, Genevrières and Chevalières (Armand Heitz is bringing in his Perrières today)… Read More
week 27 2017 – weekend wines – must try harder…
This weekend was definitely a ‘must try harder‘ weekend… 2015 Dampt Frères, Bourgogne Tonnerre Le Clos du Chateau The 2014 of this was a match for 95% of Chablis 1er crus – taught, mineral but absolutely deliciously intense wine – and all for about €9. The 2015 isn’t… Read More
