Travels in Burgundy 2019

friday breakfast

By billn on June 28, 2019 #travels in burgundy 2019

Breakfast at 2,362m today – but we took the train up to the Niesen, rather than walk or jog – or we would have been too late for breakfast! My favourite place for breakfast and the first visit this year. If you are in the neighbourhood, look up the Niesen!

a few faces from the last days…

Most of whom will feature in May and June’s Burgundy Reports – the last two (or three!) added this morning before I head home tomorrow…

At the end of Friday afternoon – the work is still not finishing in Vosne Romanée’s La Grande Rue:

planned and unplanned runs plus craftmanship…

By billn on June 20, 2019 #travels in burgundy 2019

Two runs today – the first unplanned – I forgot my lunchtime appointment with a winemaker! He reminded me after about 30 minutes of lateness – shit!!! I strapped on my running shoes and made it from Place Carnot to Beaune’s train station (the restauarant in the Hotel de Beaune) in under 3 and a half minutes – and that was despite the cars on the Boulevard, oh and the sandwich that I’d eaten one hour earlier 😉

My second run was more planned – through the vines and hills of Beaune’s most southern hill and back. Underway I noted some construction in the vines – In Vignes Franches just under Clos des Mouches and next to Pertuisots. It’s probably Jadot here, near their Clos des Ursules (I’ll ask them), but what a great work of craftsmanship is underway, refurbishing the old stone cabotte here:

yesterday and today – a mélange!

Just a few things that happened…

a little, mainly, rooftops nuits this morning…

Very lucky this morning to set foot on the roof for the first time of JC Boisset’s new cuverie in Nuits St.Georges:

moulin à vent with just a little jazz today…

By billn on May 25, 2019 #travels in burgundy 2019

Lunch in the Auberge du Col des Truges, a little walk around Saint-Joseph, a cola in Fleurie – and then it was the the ‘Jazz in Moulin à Vent.’ Thirteen domaines showing their wines – I think I ‘tasted’ all of them – by that, I mean that they were in my glass – but with my cold I couldn’t tell you if it was red or black fruit or flowers – but I could still spot the good ones!

The forecast for today was bad all week, but we had dry – hooray – until about 15 minutes before the first band should have been on stage – typical! 21h30 we were underway back to Beaune before the music had begun – a shame but c’est la vie…

Still a great day…
