It’s all about 2018 and 1998 – the short report that peps your appetite for the major reports on the 2017s to come in October to February – already 40 domaines visited, plus another 15 next week. Then there’s the small matter of nearly 150 2018 Beaujolais Nouveau which I’ll write about in these pages next week. It’s getting busy – enjoy!

Oh – I forgot to mention the little bit of science fiction that’s also in the September Report!

A modest number, but not modest selection, of vignerons pouring their 2017s this week, and that’s to add to this happy group from last week and another 14 (so-far) booked for the week after next.

I just had to order a new SD card today – right – after a camera problem this week. I hope that fixes things – or it’s finally time for the new one – which I’d anyway planned for November. Anyway, that’s why this week a couple of the producers were photographed with my backup – the iPhone – it’s not bad, but no cigar!!

Just in time to get my teeth into the harvest, next week, July’s report is now online – so it’s only a notional ‘holiday’ that there’s no August report 🙂

July marks the first serious tastings of 2017s at a modest number of domaines – but a vintage that largely had very fast malos so the wines are already ‘readable.’ There’s also a big blind tasting of Brouilly and Côte de Brouilly from multiple vintages, 2017-2011, but predominantly from 2017-2015. Then there are the beautiful 2016 Mâcons of Les Artisans Vignerons de Bourgogne du Sud.

May’s Subscriber Report went live on Thursday.

Highlighting the first meeting of the ‘Les Aligoteurs‘ where I managed to taste only half the wines – after 77 it was becoming too hard to differentiate – plus I still had to drive back to Beaune! The producers were arranged alphabetically and I started from A. If they do it again next year, I’ll start from Z so as to be sure to have them all!

But it’s not just about aligoté, there’s also more than 100 wines from 2016 – Mâconnais and Chalonnaise – plus a few domaines revisited, including a dozen producers of Moulin à Vent and a tale of two Ponsots!

PS Yes I know that there’s a problem with not all the articles showing in the right-hand navigation of each separate report – it’s why I’m late publishing – I still haven’t found the reason/solution. But I’m still working on it!

Included in this issue are the wines of over 50 domaines – about 40 of which are new names to the report.

The domaines cover the full geographic spectrum of Burgundy – from Beaujolais, Chablis, Chalonnaise, Mâconnais, the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits. One includes a visit to Domaine Rebourseau in Gevrey, looking at the changes put in place since they finally sold their picking machine!

Then there are two tastings from during the Grands Jours de Bourgogne, covering over 60 grand crus.

Finally – what is it about amphora?

So, since my October 2017 report, that’s now over 260 domaines covered and over 2,750 wines from the 2016 vintage tasted. Enjoy…
