Cécile on 2020:
A calm year certainly for the number of visits & visitors! A family year, we bottled all the 2018s together with the kids. It was fun. The work in the vines became intense as we were three weeks ahead of a normal year, though in the end not much to harvest due to the lack of water. We lost 30-40% in terms of volume.

Cécile on 2019:
2019 I would put in the same class as 2020 given the modest rain and plenty of heat. It’s probably the first time that I’ve put wine in a barrel and thought ‘Oh I did well, these are good,’ as I’m very self-critical. 2020 was easier to vinify right at the start. In the end the 2019s were slow to start fermenting, but thats all. The yields were intermediate to 2018 and 2020, in fact, they have slowly shrunk each year since 2017… ”

The wines…

Fresh, sensual wines, with great energy – great wines. Even the wines that I didn’t single out are borderline great wines!

2019 Bourgogne Cote d’Or
Half each from the Vosne and Chambolle communes…
A pretty nose, plenty of red fruit. Bright, direct, mineral – lots of freshness and energy. The finish really is of extra depth comfort and delicious. Bravo Bourgogne but NB in a structured style.

2019 Chambolle-Musigny Cabotte
Multiple parcels – 3 – Fremiers, Au Echanges and Maladières – in the domaine since 2009
More width of perfumed fruit – very pretty. Extra width and extra intensity on the palate, a hint of salinity too with lovely freshness. Super, super wine.

2019 Vosne-Romanée Vieilles-Vignes
Also a fine, small nose. More depth of flavour and texture, more density of flavour too. This is showing the most ‘full’ of these wines (so far) but it’s completely balanced. Supple, complex and airy. Very long. Beautiful wine.

2019 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Feuselottes
A large punch of floral perfume here. A little more structural but such purity with base of minerality too. Still, it’s a layered finish, deliciously so – bravo!

2019 Vosne-Romanée 1er Beaumonts
An extra notch of aromatic intensity. Fuller, more tannin but there’s hardly any grain. Bigger in the middle and finish. Then slowly fading in fine, mouth-watering style. They are different, but it’s a toss of the coin as I’d take either of these last two!

2019 Echézeaux du Dessus
Extra depth of aroma. Fuller, more energy, more concentration too but no bulk or density here, just extra flavour – complex flavour. The finish is stronger for sure. Super wine.

2019 Chapelle-Chambertin
A little more vertical aroma with higher and lower tones, less width. Extra freshness and width in the mouth, no fat, no extra mm of cushioning. The favour is complex, slightly – only slightly – grained. Intense in the middle and finish. Large scaled – the biggest – in the finish. Bravo
