Bourgogne Pinot Noir

2006 Morey Pierre Bourgogne Pinot Noir

This wine has already lost the inviting youthful fruit aromas of its first two years; it’s now narrower but perhaps deeper too with a hint of leather with some macerating dark cherry. Nice and round in the mouth and still with a hint of fat to the texture. Initially there’s just a little bitter/sour in the finish but it’s a little character before either I or it reach equilibrium and it’s gone! What’s left is a nice wine of quite enough depth for the label, still some interesting fruit and last drops that leave a lovely aroma in the glass. This is the last from half a dozen – all drank well – I would say drink-up, I have.

Medium colour. The nose has wide, slightly alcoholic top-notes that mix with a little spearmint and narrows to a base of dark red fruit. In the mouth the fruit has a nice sweet dimension, but the acidity is just slightly in the ascendant providing a sour, perhaps for some people too sour reflection. The tannin is far from evident. I’d say this is in the last days of pinot-noir youth, an adolescence of acidity like a breaking voice just compromising the performance. I’ve enjoyed a number of these over that couple of years, but this is the last – a job done because I’m not looking to keep this 20 years, but done well!

A nice medium-plus colour. The nose has an almost textured depth of dark red fruit. A little CO2 spoils the presentation of the tannin, but this is fresh in a good way and slowly lingering. Another six months in bottle plus a decanter will provide all the roundness needed.

Nice colour. Lovely red pinot fruit aromas of good depth. Fresh, but not too fresh. The mouthwatering flavours have just enough sweetness. A steal at €7.50

2008 Labet Pierre Bourgogne Pinot Noir

From vines in Chorey. Of course in 07 and 08 that meant a really strong sorting because of the whole bunch approach – almost 40% of the grapes were discarded! Medium colour. Lovely and very forward aromas of precise dark red fruit. Some slightly blocky tannin, very good acidity and crunchy fresh fruit. This is clearly a very accomplished wine for the label. I’d certainly buy this!

Cuvée Millianne. Lovely dark aromas of leaves and undergrowth – but clean aromas. Sweet, very good in the mid-palate, still some tannin as a backdrop to the melting flavours – a superb bourgogne!

Medium, medium-pale colour. The nose is fresh, with a slight warmth to the perfumed red fruits. Some sweetness and intensity, though the acidity seems on a slightly higher level – still it helps deliver a lingering flavour. Chill it for the summer.
