Bourgogne Pinot Noir

2007 Boisset Jean-Claude Bourgogne Pinot Noir

This is 90% declassified Savigny and only bottled under screw cap. Medium colour. High-toned with faint spice. In the mouth it’s supple and pretty, without hard edges with sweet fruit at its core. A very nice, and certainly impressive entry-level wine.

2007 Mischief and Mayhem Bourgogne Pinot Noir

Mainly sourced from Aloxe fruit, bottled in September, no new oak. Medium colour. The nose shows pretty, high-toned, generous pinot aromas – very pretty actually. In the mouth there’s more tannin than many from the vintage but it’s supple and overall very tasty. This is actually a super Bourgogne, and easily worth the €10 cellar door price.

2006 Morey Pierre Bourgogne Pinot Noir

Medium colour. High tones, with pretty red berry and cherry fruit – it’s really lovely. The palate is not quite how I remember it; the texture is reasonably silky with just an edge of fat, but the acidity is much more in the ascendant than when I first had it – it’s also quite tart. Mouth-watering length, not surprisingly, but with a sneaky creamy edge. The fruit on the nose remains super. I would not touch another of these for at least 3 years as I does remind me of the ‘96 Leroy bourgogne at the same stage, and that’s a beauty now!

2006 Belland Roger Bourgogne Pinot Noir

A relatively rare ‘Diam’ cork-amalgum seal. Medium, medium-plus colour. A nice, forward blend of red and black cherry that with swirling concentrates more on the red – the last drops are super and redcurranty. A surprising amount of fat for the appellation, relatively fine tannin and good acidity. In the mid-palate I have the impression of some savoury flavour that goes into a decent finish. Very superior Bourgogne and perfect for pouring now. Excellent.

2006 Guyon Bourgogne Pinot Noir

Bright, medium colour. The nose offers up, wide, high-toned glossy red fruit. Understated concentration yet it seems to grow in the mouth. The fruit is perhaps a hint estery, but it will be impressive to drink young.

Medium colour. High-toned, slightly mineral nose under-pinned with very nice fruit. Ripe, tasty and clean with good concentration and plenty of energy and dimension. Excellent regional.

Medium, medium-plus cherry-red. The nose is deep and heavily scented, darkly fruited, edged with a little cream and with something just a little more floral above – very impressive. The palate is a little more linear than the nose, medium density with good dark fruit, slightly forward acidity and a nice extra dimension in the mid-palate. The reasonably grained tannin is in the background.

Medium colour. High-toned and faintly estery, but not in a bad way. In the mouth there’s good concentration for a regional wine, delivering a slightly structured wine that I can easily recommend. I bought some.

2006 Seguin Manuel Bourgogne Pinot Noir

By on June 30, 2008 #asides

From several plots dotted around the Hautes-Côtes, Chorey and Savigny. The nose majors on a wide expanse of

strawberry fruit. In the mouth it’s soft, tasty and also shares the strawberry impression. Far from

‘simple’, there’s decent tannin behind and a good length. Very successful.
