Meursault

2009 Grivault Albert Meursault

The aromas are clean and very pretty. Balanced, ripe and a lovely mid-palate expansion of flavour. Good length too – this is quite impressive.

Wider aromas with hints of herbs and in the background there’s something more savoury. This again bursts forward in the mid-palate after a flatter entry.

1962 Leroy (Maison) Meursault

Some oxidation for sure but plenty of white-chocolate, truffles and lanolin in the mid-palate and finish – caught just in time – okay not just in time, still alive, just about some warmth in the body but lots of redeeming features!

Pale again. The fruit aroma has more impact and a more creamy impression. Not quite as fat as the Beaune and very good good texture. This is a smaller wine in all physical dimensions, that must be why it’s half the price of the Clos des Mouches!

1999 Morey-Blanc Meursault

Inspecting the half-bottle, there’s some very fine sediment at the base and the wine is not perfectly bright. Under the capsule it is completely black, it looks like you could plant potatoes! The cork comes out and has pink and blue lines down it, the dark coloured wine is – quite obviously – oxidised! Not to an undrinkable level, but not far away. The nose has a little ginger mixed in with the oxidised aromas. In the mouth it seems clean and fresh. The acidity seems a little separate from the rest of the wine though it is relatively fine, but it’s oxidised…

2007 Mischief and Mayhem Meursault

Bottled September 2008. The colour is a little deeper yellow. Riper and punchier aromas fill the glass, backed by faint oak. The flavours are richer than the St.Romain’s but there’s an underlying freshness that avoids too fat an impression, yet the texture is silky smooth. Faintly lingering with some savoury flavour. Clean and tasty.

2007 Pavillon Meursault

A tight core of fruit, faint SO2. Ripe but not fat, good acidity and the impression of the mid-palate filling out. A quite savoury impression in the finish. Pretty mineral for a villages Meursault.

Wide with very faint brioche – lovely understated nose. Concentrated with good acidity, this is a very nice example indeed. The finish lingers very well. Super.
