2005 Lejeune Bourgogne

By on November 30, 2009 #asides

Medium-plus colour. Open, dark-red fruit aromas, faint iron. A palate that seems somehow a little attenuated (filtered?) and lacking a little gloss/brightness, yet there is good density, balance and flavour and there are no hard edges or angles – it is far from a chore to take the next sip. Reasonably open and still primary. A wine that is close to villages Pommard quality from many other vintages.

1995 Leroy (Maison) Bourgogne

By on November 30, 2009 #asides

Medium ruby-red with and edge of salmon pink. Sweet raisin, slightly resinous aromas, eventually a beacon of pure, red berry fruit. In the mouth there’s a warm red fruit base and very good acidity – the texture is plusher than you’d expect for the label. There’s still some grain to the tannin and even a hint of astringency. The finish is medium at best, but overall this is a compelling wine that I’m convinced if served to you blind, you’d be guessing higher appellations. This wine starts with both aromas and flavours of maturity bvut they fade to more primary elements so I’ll try and leave my remaining bottle at least another 5 years.

2006 Mugneret-Gibourg Georges Bourgogne

By on April 30, 2009 #asides

Relatively deep colour with purple hints. The nose is heavy with dark, sugar-coated cherry. There’s a soft texture and decent concentration. Slightly tart acidity is more than offset by young fruit that is both stylish and concentrated plus shows a good extra dimension in the mid-plate. A reasonable, if rather faint finish is the last act – perhaps dilute would also be an appropriate alternate description, despite the length. Not a long note, but a bottle that was emptied alarmingly fast. At a good price, this is worth going ‘long’ on for your cellar.

2004 Chauvenet Jean Bourgogne

Quite deeply coloured. A nose of 2004 plus mushrooms. Mouth-filling with some tannin – this is a big bourgogne – and slightly tart acidity. Not much fun here.

2006 Damoy Pierre Bourgogne

Quite deep colour. The nose shows floral tones and a nice depth. In the mouth there’s width and good acidity to go with the faint, furry tannins and a suggestion of dark oak. An excellent Bourgogne.

2006 Leflaive Bourgogne

High-toned with plenty of action – it’s quite pretty. There’s a mineral aspect to the flavours, decent acidity and length. Not worth the tariff, but a good wine.

2006 Perrot-Minot Christophe Bourgogne

By on November 30, 2008 #asides

Medium colour. Not so wide, but has an interesting linear depth – fine and clean. Good concentration with ripe fruit and an understated structure. Quite nice.

2006 Tollot-Beaut Bourgogne

The nose impresses with its width and some creamy depth too. Nicely covers the palate – a little structure and nice balance. Good length – a very tasty bourgogne.
