7,500 bottles – a little also sold to négoce. Patrick is looking for a little floral element in this wine. Medium colour. Depth that is topped by some floral and savoury elements. This is quite mineral in stance, concentrated too and delivers a long finish. Excellent.

2008 Buisson-Charles Meursault Les Tessons
2008 Roux Père et Fils St.Aubin La Pucelle
Medium yellow colour. There’s a faint savoury lift to the fresh nose, it’s more pleasantly mineral than fruity. I don’t think the 33°C weather is fooling me, it really does have decent concentration and a nice texture. Very good acidity offsets slightly mineral (again) flavours – I like this very much, and I’m sure I still would even if the weather were cooler!
2008 Croix (des) Beaune
Medium, medium-plus colour. The nose is a lovely thing; it’s not overly effusive or very deep, but it’s a thing of detail and clarity – initially some whiffs of wood but an hour afterwards quite beguiling dark red fruit. In the mouth, like many 08s, it’s freshness personified and may not be to the taste of everyone, but like the nose there are middle-weight fruit flavours that are a clarion of clarity. The finish is, no surprise, driven by the acidity. For my taste there’s ‘just’ enough balance today, it’s precise and enjoyable, but it’s not for lovers of sweetly plush wines, it could be a tougher proposition in its ‘middle years’ though.
2008 Roche de Bellene Meursault Vieilles Vignes
Medium yellow. A faint toast quickly lifts to leave a wide and deep, but never heavy, curtain of ripe but fresh, sweet fruit. In the mouth there is perfect acidity and a sweetness that comes from perfectly ripe fruit. Wide but essentially linear flavours just add a hint of extra creamy width in the mid-palate – there’s no obvious fat here. Good length with still a hint of sweetness. A bottle that on a warm summer day empties very quickly indeed…
2008 Labet Pierre Beaune Clos du Dessus du Marconnets
2008 Labet Pierre Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes
The latest addition to the range; bought in April 2008 as a ‘bush’ – it hadn’t been tended in 18 months. Medium colour. The aromas are, initially, much less fruity than those of the Coucherias; slowly they expand from an inauspicious start, eventually offering flashes of very high quality fruit. Medium density with nice acidity. The flavours are quite lovely as you head into the finish. Understated, but a good a wine.
2008 Ardhuy Beaune Petite Clos du Teurons Blanc
2008 Bellene Volnay
From a single lieu-dit, only worked for 2 years in manner Nicolas would like, but he was happy enough with this vintage to include some stems. The nose is a little shy, but clearly pretty and floral. The width of flavour is very nice, the tannin edges just ahead of the fruit today – but it’s a good velvet texture.
