2009

2009 Lamarche Francois Vosne-Romanée

By billn on April 07, 2011

Fruit for this wine was blended from five parcels. Darker fruit with an obvious spicy Vosne context plus a little oak. This is fuller, rounder and more supple than the Bourgogne, extra intensity too of darker fruit – some licorice and hints of cedar. Good wine!

2009 Leroux Benjamin Puligny-Montrachet

By billn on March 30, 2011

Wide, understated, perhaps a little aromatically loose. Makes a super impression in the mouth; slightly cushioned with fine dimension – excellent for the label.

2009 Leroux Benjamin Meursault Vireuls

By billn on March 30, 2011

A little more aromatic complexity. This has super intensity and much more minerality than the Puligny – long too. What a mouthful of wine – wow.

2009 Vougeraie Vougeot Clos de la Prieuré Blanc

By billn on March 24, 2011

High tones of grapefruit above toasted bread. Good sweetness that’s balanced by well-judged acidity – this is quite lovely – simply, but lovely.

2009 Vougeraie Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles

By billn on March 24, 2011

Normal (classic) cuvée. The sauvage note is there, but it seems to diminish in the glass. Wide and interesting, the sweet fruit peaks in the mid-palate – tasty.

2009 Vougeraie Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles

By billn on March 24, 2011

Cuvée en foule. The nose seems to offer up chalk and minerals – no sauvage. Fuller and more tannic than the basic cuvée there definitely seems more material in the glass. Again there is a peak of flavour in the mid-palate but this time with much more complexity. A bigger difference in the two wines in 09 versus 08.

2009 Guyot Olivier Marsannay Blanc

By billn on March 23, 2011

Ripe and aromatic. This is round in the mouth with nicely understated but balancing acidity. As Marsannay blanc goes, this has much to commend it.

2009 Maume Volnay

By billn on March 21, 2011

There’s a little reduction on the nose. In the mouth fruity and round – quite long too – in-between there’s some slightly rustic tannin, though this will be but a memory in two or three years.

2009 Maume Gevrey-Chambertin

By billn on March 21, 2011

An assemblage from 10 parcels of vines which normally makes 3 cuvées; a Gevrey Aux Etelois, a Gevrey En Pallud (seventy-five year-old vines) and this wine. A spiced-bread nose. The serious flavour grows and grows. Will be very good.
