2006 Chauvenet Jean Nuits St.Georges Les Bousselots

By on March 31, 2009 #asides

Deep colour. High-toned, slightly estery aromas. Wow – now that’s astringent – like sifting sand between your teeth. Good width of flavour but I find the flavour fading quite quickly. This is a toughie that will need some cellar time.

2006 Chevillon Robert Nuits St.Georges Les Chaignots

Medium. medium-plus colour. A very nice nose, shaded a little more to darker fruit than was the case for the villages. Ripe, very tasty fruit sits with good acidity and a grainy tannin. A little licorice flavour and good length. This is very nice.

2006 Gouges Henri Nuits St.Georges Clos des Porrets St.Georges

Medium-plus colour. The nose has width despite a tight but silky impression – slowly opens up to show darker notes and a hint of spice. Mouth-filling, again with a little spicy impression. Plenty of tannin and very good acidity. A little more licorice flavour. This clearly needs plenty of time, but it’s very nice!

2006 Liger-Belair Thibault Nuits St.Georges Les St.Georges

By on March 31, 2009 #asides

Medium-plus colour. No real impact from the nose, but there is nice, understated complexity that doesn’t seem at all barrel-derived. Very fine grain to the tannin and is set against lovely fruit. The finish is long with some barrel influence. Rather good and currently quite drinkable.

2006 Remoriquet Henri & Gilles Nuits St.Georges Les Damodes

By on March 31, 2009 #asides

Medium, medium-plus colour. The nose is bright with polished, slightly darker fruit – wide but perhaps less deep than the ‘Allots’. More intensity, more tannin and more flavour. Harder to drink now, but this is a very good wine.

2006 Rion Daniel Nuits St.Georges Les Vignes Rondes

By on March 31, 2009 #asides

(Reminds me I should dig out that 6-pack of 1997 I have somewhere!) Medium, medium-plus cherry-red colour. Deep, concentrated red fruits on the nose. Ripe and intense with good acidity, and length that’s edged with faint astringency. Young, but will be very nice.

2006 Rodet Antonin Nuits St.Georges Clos du Thorey

By on March 31, 2009 #asides

A dark, spicy nose that’s set against high-toned, focused fruit. Plenty of tannin, but there’s vigour and flavour here – I like this a lot.

2006 Remoissenet Père et Fils Puligny-Montrachet La Garenne

By on March 31, 2009 #asides

The 2006 shows denser aromas of riper fruit and initially a little yeast. Despite the riper aromas this has a nice mineral spine and again very good balance. I’d happily drink both, but would buy the 07…

2006 Roumier Georges Morey St.Denis Clos de la Bussière

By on March 31, 2009 #asides

Very forward fruit on the nose – a meange of red fruits. Fresh, with a lovely ‘mouth perfume’ and shows a super width all the way to the finish. Very nice flavour on the finish. Reasonably tannic but a nice overall balance. A very tasty, precocious bottle.
