Meursault

2002 Jadot Louis Meursault

Medium yellow. The nose has very understated butterscotch and oak, swirling lifts out a little high-toned pear fruit. The palate is nicely concentrated and very well textured. The acidity is nice, as is the medium and a bit finish. Certainly a large step-up from the Bourgogne, but then so is the price (3x). Good wine, but not brilliant value.

From the west side of the appellation. Medium yellow. A very floral nose with hints of herb overlaying the fruit. Fatter, well balanced acidity, in-fact very good acidity. Really does have an extra dimension and depth of complexity. Again, medium length, but the real interest for this wine is in the mouth. A very tasty wine indeed.

The last bottle was corked, so we try again. Medium gold colour – very nice nose – fresh, high tones with whiffs of pineapple and pear. The sweet palate has really excellent balance, some fat and an impressive length for the appellation. I re-stocked despite the previous corky experience – very good wine, excellent villages.

Deep gold. Nose is spoiled by cork taint. The palate is fat and has good acidity, plenty of concentration and length – could be a good wine if it was in the right condition.

Pale gold. Very nutty – in fact almost too nutty. There’s also a faint oxidative note. The palate shows some fat and good acidity too, but there’s a little of oxidative impression here too. If it’s just the style than I’m not a fan!

Pale colour. This shows a heavy, almost reduced nose, perhaps a little vegetal too – over 45 minutes it didn’t improve. The palate, however, is quite fat and very Meursault. Good length too. Shame about the nose.

Had one of these earlier in the year that was a little oxidised, this seemed better. Golden colour. The nose has a little residual oak and a slughtly nutty note that underpins sweet melon. The palate is fat and rich – a little exotic perhaps – certainly covers the ample acidity. An interesting and long finish too. A wine I enjoyed – obviously some bottle variation around though
