2009 Lécheneaut (Philippe et Vincent) Nuits St.Georges

Dark oak aromas – mainly. Lithe velvet texture with tannin that is just a little astringent in the finish. Again there’s a little too much oak for my taste but you will find very good finishing flavour.

Two thirds of the grapes come from the 1er cru part of the vineyard. High tones and very modest oak notes overlaid by warm, red fruit. Round, mouth-filling and rather understated velvet tannin – very good width to the flavour. A good lingering finish that might have been even better with just an ounce more acidity – good wine though.

2009 Pousse d'Or Chambolle-Musigny

Just a hint of toasty oak on the nose; dark fruit bubbles below. Fresh, good acidity here though currently offering a rather narrow flavour-impression. There is obvious oak as a flavour component which obscures much of what I’d hope to find in a Chambolle. I like the shape of the wine but time will tell how good it is as the oak fades.

2009 Pataille Sylvain Marsannay Les Longerois

Medium-plus colour. The nose has an intensity that majors on a fine and clear raspberry note. In the mouth this reminds me of a 2008 with a sweet-and-sour approach; fine sweet fruit with a powerful acidity that offers impressive balance. There is a nod to the vintage with a modest mid-palate padding that also shows a hint of cream to the flavour. Like the 09 Ladoix 1er of Ravaut, this has nothing of the facile nature of many 09s – very impressive wine, and one that is worth a special search. It may ‘only’ be a villages wine, but it will amply reward 15 years in the cellar, yet, I have the impression it will never be other than generous despite its coiled intensity. Certainly worthy of a 1er cru label. Yum.

2009 Germain Henri Meursault Le Limozin

Here is a much more frank fruit note. Fresh, with fine acidity though again there is less absolute focus versus the 2010s. Mouth-watering flavour of green-skinned fruit – lovely wine.

2009 Germain Henri Meursault Chevalières

High-toned, quite pretty aromas. After the (2010) premier crus this is less direct and focused, yet it oozes flavour across your tongue. Quite decent acidity too.

2009 Clark David Côte de Nuits Villages

Only a hint more than medium colour. I’ve come to expect a bit of stubborn background reduction in David Clark’s wines but there’s not even a hint of it here; a little toasted bread (more like a white). In the mouth this is forward, fresh and quite intense. The flavours have a bit of the floral about them, the red fruit being far from the 09 vernacular of overtly ripe and sweet. Just a hint of oak flavour in the finish too. This is a wine that drinks quite well now but I suspect it will be on another level in 6-12 months. Very accomplished.

2009 Digioia-Royer Chambolle-Musigny

From a number of parcels, with mix of vines of 45-50 years old. Ripe, high-toned fruit is supported by a baked fruit element. In the mouth the structure is currently slightly ahead of the fruit – but what elegant and pretty fruit it is – and it lingers beautifully.

2009 Digioia-Royer Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes

Versus the ‘regular’ Chambolle this wine is deeper toned and shows a hint of musky perfume – perhaps a little heavy but quite compelling. Finer tannin here and very good flavour that widens across the palate, filling all the nooks and crannies of your mouth. Long with just a little mineral flavour. Very nice wine.
