2009

2009 Vougeraie Charmes-Chambertin - Mazoyeres

By billn on March 24, 2011

The first wine whose nose is a little tight. Round with plenty of structure – actually quite mineral. Faint hints of coconut on a very long finish. Far from ‘facile’ Charmes…

2009 Guyot Olivier Clos St.Denis

Very forward aromas with a faint edge of reduction. This is a big mouthful of wine, rescued by a lovely, late-arriving wave of acidity – actually a very interesting wine.

2009 Guyot Olivier Clos de la Roche

Dark ripe fruits that are rather distinguished. Very fine tannin, this is mineral and very intense. In a vintage like 09 I think I’d take this ahead of the Clos St.Denis.

2009 Long-Depaquit Chablis La Moutonne

By billn on March 22, 2011

Fresh aromas with hints of herbs and an understated base of fruit. Full-flavoured with lots of minerality and fruit stones. A slowly leaching sweetness and very long.

2009 Long-Depaquit Chablis Le Clos

By billn on March 22, 2011

A hint of saline yet understated. Full, slightly warm and round. Flavour-packed, the acidity seems low yet with just enough balance for a fabulously flavoured finish.

2009 Clos Frantin Echézeaux

By billn on March 22, 2011

Aromas of ripe fruit-conserve – dark fruit too. Fine tannin with lots of cream-edged fruit. This wine makes an impression this lingers well in the finish.

2009 Esmonin Frédéric Ruchottes-Chambertin

By billn on March 22, 2011

The fruit has a darker complexion, initially less open but finely detailed – finally there is a more red fruit too. Lots of extract, not super-sweet for an 09, again with plenty of fine-grained tannin. This wine seems a little looser knit than the Estournelles but the supporting intensity is good, as is the length. Needs some time for focus I think.

2009 Long-Depaquit Chablis Les Blanchots

By billn on March 22, 2011

A hint of sulfur, the aromatic depth gets better and better as it recedes. Textured, layered, beautiful flavours and balance. The flavours further expand – super!
